January 31

P4 and P7--DGP; Students they worked on their dinner party papers. Students who want to retake the vocabulary test on lesson 7 may come in before school on Thursday to take a retest.  The two scores will be averaged together.  Students must be in the cafeteria by 8:15.  If they arrive after that time, they may not be allowed back to the room.

P3, P5, and P6--DGP;  We began looking at the difference between independent and dependent clauses.  Students completed practice sheets in class before working on their homework.  HW--Finish the practice sheet for tomorrow.  Students should enter their Bedhead stories on the online essay scorer by Friday.  Remember, the directions for logging in are on the top of the blog. 

January 30

P4 and P7--DGP; Students took a vocabulary test over lesson 7.  They then began working on their next paper, The Dinner Party.  They will have class time this week to work on it and will be able to type their work later in the week.

P3, P5, and P6--DGP; Students took a vocabulary test over lesson 49.  They then had time to work on their bedhead stories they started last week.  HW--They should have their rough drafts of their Bedhead stories finished tomorrow when they come to class.

January 27

P4 and P7--DGP; Students finished sharing their Bedhead stories with the class.  They then began working with a partner to write a paragraph about a girl named Dot, but they could not use letters with dots (i, j).  HW--Study for test on lesson 7 vocabulary.

P3, P5, and P6--DGP; Students continued working on their narratives inspired by the book, Bedhead.  Their stories had to include examples of alliteration, onomatopoeia, strong verbs, and repetition.  HW--Study for vocabulary test on Monday over lesson 49.

January 26

Annie--The school play will be this weekend!  Students can purchase tickets before school tomorrow or at the door.  $10.00 per ticket.

P4 and P7--DGP Quiz--Open Note;  Students shared their stories written earlier this week. Students then worked with partners to write an "Unjournaling" story.  HW--Study for vocab test on Monday--lesson 7 in the Greek and Latin root book..

P3, P5, and P6--DGP Quiz--Open Note;  Students turned in their reflections on their persuasive papers.  They then participated in a "hairor" story based on a children's book read in class.  HW--Study for Monday's vocabulary test on lesson 49 of suffixes.

January 25

Don't forget to return parent surveys that were sent home.

P4 and P7--DGP;  Students took a quiz on Greek and Latin Roots Lesson 7.  They then continued their free write from yesterday.  HW--Vocab test will be Monday.

P3, P5, and P6--DGP; Students took a quiz on suffixes lesson 49.  They then read papers to each other so that students could hear what they actually wrote versus what they meant to write.  After finishing reading papers, students continued working on the reflection on how they could improve their writing and how to make an effective argument.  HW--Vocab test will be Monday.

January 24

Class Meeting--Because we had class meetings today, all classes were shorter.

P4 and P7--DGP; After reading Bedhead  by Margie Palatini together, students wrote either a fictional narrative or personal narrative about bedhead.  HW--Study vocabulary quiz over lesson 7.

P3, P5, and P6--DGP;  Students were given their persuasive papers back.  They then wrote a paragraph explaining what they could do to improve their writing and then answered the essential question, "What makes an effective argument?"  HW--Study for vocabulary quiz over lesson 49.

January 23

If you haven't turned in your prepostion project from last week, it needs to be turned in ASAP.  You are loosing 10 points for each day it is late.

P4 and P7--DGP; Those who did not make a 100 on the pretest for prepositions took the post test today.  They then wrote five sentences using vocabulary words from lesson 7.  HW--Study for vocab quiz on Wednesday.

P3, P5, and P6--DGP; The scoring guide for writing effective vocab sentences was introduced.  Students practiced writing 2 point sentences after they finished the preposition test.  HW--Finish vocabulary squares for lesson 49--Due Tomorrow.  Study for vocabulary quiz which will be Wednesday.

January 20

P3, P5, and P6--DGP; Students completed a study guide on prepositions and as a review of other grammar.  As they finished, they worked on their vocabulary squares.  HW--Use preposition worksheets posted to yesterday's blog to study for Monday's test.  Vocabulary squares due Tuesday.  Those who did not turn in their preposition projects must turn them in Monday.

P4--DGP; Students completed a study guide on prepositions and as a review of other grammar.  HW--Use preposition worksheets posted to yesterday's blog to study for Monday's test. 

P7--DGP; Students completed a study guide on prepositions and as a review of other grammar. They then had time to work on their preposition projects.  HW--Use preposition worksheets posted to yesterday's blog to study for Monday's test. If they haven't finished their preposition projects, they are due Monday.

January 19

P3, P5, and P6--DGP; We discussed vocabulary based on the suffixes acy, tude, and ure.  Students then began working on vocabulary squares.  They will have time tomorrow to work on these, and they will be done at the end of class then.  HW--Finish preposition project which is due tomorrow.

January 18

Crazy Sock Day--$1.00 for Relay for Life--Friday.

Preposition Project due Friday.

All Classes--Students had the period to work on the preposition project started yesterday in class.  Those who do not finish it today should complete it by Friday when it is due.  It is very important that students be able to identify prepositional phrases so that they will be able to identify different types of sentences.
