April 29

6th--Students took the vocabulary quiz over the words from our Titanic unit.  They then had time to finish typing their papers.  If they did not finish, they should finish over the weekend and should turn them in on Monday.  HW--Test over the vocabulary words on Tuesday.

7th--Students had time to continue reading Freak the Mighty which will be the basis of the response to literature unit.  HW--Quiz over L7 vocabulary on Tuesday; test on Friday.

April 28

6th--We spent the day in the computer lab and will do so again tomorrow.  The goal is for students to finish their final drafts by the end of class tomorrow.  If they don't, they will need a flash drive so that they can take their papers home to finish typing over the weekend. Download Historical Fiction Scoring Guide HW--Study for vocabulary quiz tomorrow and vocabulary test on Tuesday.

7th--Students who did not work on their vocabulary yesterday did so. Students spent the rest of the period was spent reading Freak the Mighty and responding in their journals.  HW--Vocab quiz next Tuesday.  Vocab test next Friday.

April 27

6th--Students worked on the rough draft of the Titanic papers.  They need to have a rough draft finished by Thursday so that they will be able to type, edit, and revise their papers before turning them in at the end of class on Friday.  HW--Study vocabulary from the Titanic text for a quiz on Friday and a text next Tuesday.

7th--All students were given their graded response to literature for the first three chapters of Freak the Mighty.  Here is a copy of the response to literature quiestions--some kids have lost the copy given in class.  Download Response to Literature Topic Sentences P2--Performing arts.  P5--Lesson 7 in the vocabulary book.  Students completed the exercises for the lesson.  There will be a quiz next Tuesday and a test next Friday.

 

April 26

6th--Students worked to fill out their web on the Titanic.  They were able to use the nonficion narrative from the text, copies of primary resources, and other books to gather information.  Time was also provided to study for the vocabulary quiz which will be Friday.  There will be a vocabulary test on Tuesday.  Here are the vocabulary words in case they are needed.  Download Vocabulary anticipation guide with answers

7th--Response to Literature--Students read the first three chapters of Freak the Mighty.  To help them write about the selection, they chose from a series of topic sentence starters that act as the first sentence of a response to literature.  Their writing for this was collected and will be graded.

April 25

6th--Students started a web that will be used when writing the historical fiction paper about the Titanic.  We then read a story in the textbook about the Titanic.  HW--Quiz over Titanic vocabulary Friday.  Test will be next Tuesday.

7th--Students worked on finishing their poetry books while others wrote in their journals about friendship.  We then began reading Freak the Mighty which will be the basis of our response to literature unit.

April 21

6th--Students took a quiz over drama terms before reading more about the Titanic.

7th--Students took a quiz over poetry terms before working more on the poetry book they are writing.  The book will be due at the end of class tomorrow.

April 20

6th--Students who needed to finished their response to literature paragraph.  They then were given an anticipation guide to complete on vocabulary connecting to the Titanic.  Download Vocabulary anticipation guide with answers (There will be a vocabulary matching quiz and a test in the next few weeks.)  After completing the anticipation guide, they were able to choose between two books to read in class over the next few days.  Both books are about the Titanic.  By the middle of next week, students will be ready to write a story about the Titanic.  HW--Quiz on drama vocabulary tomorrow.  Download Drama VocabularyThose who scored a 100 on the pretest don't have to take the quiz tomorrow.  Grades for those students not taking the quiz have already been added to Pinnacle.

April 19

6th--Students made 2 column notes for the drama vocabulary that was discussed last week.  There will be a quiz on Thursday; however, students will have time in class tomorrow to study.  They then began writing a response to literature for The Prince and the Pauper. Download The Prince and the PauperName  This will be finished in class today (6th period) or tomorrow (3rd period) and will count as a quiz grade.

7th--Students continued working on the poetry unit.  Their vocabulary quiz will be on Thursday.  They will have time to study in class tomorrow.
