March 31

6th--Sentence Structure--We continued to practice identifying the different types of sentences.  There will be a quiz tomorrow in class.  Here are some resources to use for practice and review.

7th--Misplaced Modifiers--We looked at different examples of misplaced modifiers using a PowerPoint.  Download Misplaced Modifiers mine  Students wrote and illustrated an example of a sentence containing a misplaced modifier and then corrected the sentence so that there was no misplaced modifier.  HW--Correct the sentences containing a misplaced modifier.  Download Misplaced Modifiers practice

March 29

6th--We worked to review the 4 different sentence structures.

7th--Students took a practice CRCT.  Tomorrow, they will use their results to determine areas needed to review.

March 28

Registration Forms-Students were given a registration form today.  It is very important that this form be returned this week.

6th--We corrected the comma practice from Friday, and as time permitted, we began reviewing sentence structures.\

7th--We reviewed different ways to correct run-ons, fragments, and comma splices.  We also reviewed adjective/adverb phrases and appositive phrases.

March 24

Report cards were sent home today along with some other papers.  Please look through things, sign the report card, and return to school.

Tomorrow is the last day of the Relay for Life Coin War.  Remember, silver change is positive points for your pod.  Paper money is negative points for the other pods.  Go 6QA!!!

6th--We checked homework and then students completed a sheet where they had to edit a paragraph for capitalization mistakes.  As time permitted, we began reviewing the use of the dreaded comma!

7th--We checked the homework.  Students then wrote a letter to me using homonyms and homophones incorrectly.  At the end of the class, they were given a letter written by someone else.  HW--The students are to act as a teacher and should correct the errors in the letter using a pen.  Study for the quizzes tomorrow on homophones, homonyms, comparatives, and superlatives.  Download Homonyms Practice Quiz  Download Comparativesuperlative chart  Download Comparativesuperlative chart answers

March 23

6th--We began reviewing capitalization.  HW--Finish capitalization worksheet--front and back.

7th--Students finished typing the telestich using comparatives and superlatives.  HW--Finish capitalization practice.  Quiz Friday--homophones, homonyms, comparatives, and superlatives.

March 22

6th--We finished discussing each question on a practice research test.  Tomorrow, we will begin reviewing the different sentence structures.

7th--Students worked either in pairs or alone to begin writing a telestich about spring.  Each line of the poem has to include a different comparative or superlative.  Here are the directions given in class.  Download Spring Telestitch Poem with Comparatives and Superlatives  Students will have class time to finish writing and to type it tomorrow in class.  HW--Activity using homophones and homonyms is due tomorrow.  This was assigned on Thursday and class time was given Friday and Monday.  Students should select 32 words to use on the assignement.  Here is the PowerPoint where the words are listed.   Download Tricky Words

March 21

6th--We reviewed how to fix run-ons and fragments.  We then began working on a practice CRCT focusing on writing skills. We will continue this tomorrow.

7th--Students had the chance to look at their verb tests from yesterday.  We then examined the difference between comparatives and superlatives.  Tomorrow, students will use comparatives and superlatives in a poem.  They also had time to work on the homophone and homonym project.  HW--Project is due Wednesday.

March 18

 Coin Wars--Start next Tuesday.  Silver change is plus points for your pod.  Dollars in the bins for other pods are minus points.  This is a fund raiser for Relay for Life.

6th--Students practiced fixing fragments and run-ons. 

7th--Students took a test on verb tenses before working on the assignment given yesterday to review homonyms and homophones.  HW--Homonyms/homophone assignment due Wednesday.  Quiz next Friday on homonyms and homophones.

March 17

6th--We began reviewing fragments and run-ons.  We used a PowerPoint and our workbooks.  We sill continue working on this tomorrow!

7th--Students took a quiz on the principle parts of verbs.  We then began looking at difficult spelling pairs--homophones and homonyms.  They were given a list of words and directions for a project.  They will have time to work on the project tomorrow after the test.  HW--Study for test.  Project is due Wednesday.

March 16

6th--We finished going over the practice CRCT students took last week.  Students then looked at the questions they missed to determine why they missed them.  This will help them as they take the CRCT in a few weeks by allowing them to know "traps" to avoid.
