Week of May 12

Reading--In reading, students continue to read a variety of books either individually or in groups.  On Tuesday, students could decide between reading or studying for their vocabulary test on WednesdayThe last reading log of the year will be due Thursday.

Social Studies--Students are working in class on their end of the year magazine using Microsoft Publisher.  They have class time all week to work, but they may need to write some of their articles while at home.  Their magazines will be due at the end of class on Friday.  They may come in before school to work on the lap tops any day this week.

Don't forget to purchase summer reading books in the media center.  Some kids have already started reading their summer books!

Reading Reminders for the Rest of the Year

Final Exam--May 21--There is nothing to study for this because students will be asked to answer a variety of comprehension type questions.

All students are currently reading a book in class--some are reading in groups and some are reading individually.  Each day we focus on a different strategy or literary device--looking at vocabulary, characterization, etc.

Social Studies--If You Were Absent

Here is a list of things that were graded this week or that will be graded prior to the end of the semester.  If you have been absent, please make sure you turn these in!

Civil Rights Dates and Collage--Due May 7--Students should not need additional time to complete this because it was assigned on May 1 and time was given in class.

Chapter 12 Quiz--May 6--Study Guided Reading Questions and Who Am I

Dinner Party--May 8--You are planning a dinner party and can invite any 5 people who were important to Georgia's history.  Write a paragraph for each person telling why he/she was important to Georgia, why you would invite them, what you would talk about with them, etc.  Due May 9.  Class time was given on the 8th.

ABC's of Georgia History--May 9--Done in class.

Georgia History Magazine--Discussed May 7, but students will begin working on it May 12 and will have all week to complete.  Due May 16.

Fear Factor--This Friday

The Dickerson Relay for Life Team will sponsor the 2nd Annual Teacher Fear Factor on Friday, April 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the Dickerson field.

Join us to help fight cancer and cheer on your favorite teachers as they take part in terrifying and challenging events such as The Treacherous Tricycle Race, the Babbling Baby Pool Relay, In Yo Face and the Egg Drop competition.

Of course, we will also feature Dickerson’s favorite event, the Teacher Dunking Tank!  Can you dunk your teacher?  Do you dare?

Tickets are $5.00 and will be sold in the atrium on April 23 – 25, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before homeroom.  Pizza, snacks and soft drinks will be available for an additional charge.

Come out and join the fun!  Help us support the DMS Relay for Life team benefiting the American Cancer Society.  Bring the whole family!  We look forward to sharing a great time with everyone!

Reading 4/16

Students have spent two days researching a "hot topic" of their choice.  They were to create a T-chart or a Venn diagram utilizing their research.  They will need to make sure that they have their notes in class on Thursday.

Reminders about Online Assessments--Revised

Reading Classes--You should have taken the online assessments for extra credit by April 22nd.

Social Studies Classes--You should take the online assessments for extra credit by April 28th.

These dates will allow you to take the practice tests prior to taking the actual CRCT.

--Social Studies--Test Chapter 11 Thursday; We will review in class on Wednesday.

--Field Day--Friday

--All students have been given a sheet with login information for either my reading or social studies class so they can take practice CRCT assessments on-line.  Students will be given bonus points for tests on which they earn a 75% or higher.  They do not need to bring in anything to show their scores; I can check them electronically.
