Today in class we copied the quote from B. Franklin, "We must all hang together, or most assuredly we will all hang separately."  We read together the story of "Rip Van Winkle" by Washington Irving - relating the time to what we have been studying.  There is no homework tonight.  Have a Happy and SAFE Halloween.

Assignments for Tuesday, October 30, 2007

Today in class we added another quote to our notebook - "If this is treason, make the most of it." Patrick Henry

We did a guided note-taking activity that focused mainly on the Treaty of Paris which ended the Revolution.  Then, we took notes individually on the Battle of Kettle Creek, the Siege of Savannah, Elijah Clarke, and Austin Dabney.  This was to be finished for homework if not completed in class.

Remember!  Your Revolution in Georgia Scavenger Hunt is due on Friday, Nov. 2.  (If one of the websites is down, try another site for the answer.)

Assignments for Monday, October 29, 2007

After singing ALL verses of the original "Yankee Doodle Dandy"  we discussed which of the grievances against King George we thought were most important.  Each group picked their top three and had to support why they made these choices.  I then gave some notes on the Battle of Saratoga and why this is regarded as the turning point of the war.  Remember, you have a scavenger hunt about the Revolutionary War in Georgia due on Friday (Nov. 2) and an assigned biography of a Revolutionary era person due the next Friday (Nov. 9)  I will give you a date tomorrow for the test on the Revolutionary War.

Assignments for Friday, October 26, 2007

Today in class we had a quiz on the beginning of the Declaration of Independence - last night's homework.  We then discussed the Declaration of Independence and why it was written.  A biography of a person involved in the Revolution was assigned.  This is due on Friday, Oct. 9.  (If you were absent today, see me when you come back.)   The assignment for the remainder of class was to read the Declaration and the side-by-side explanation.

Assignments for Thursday, October 25, 2007

The quiz on the causes of the American Revolution were returned today.  We then took notes on the beginning of the Revolution.  A worksheet on the Declaration of Independence was given out. The first page (front and back) is due tomorrow.  A webquest was also given out - on the colonial period in Georgia.  It is due on Friday, November 2.

Georgia History Assignments for Tuesday and Wednesday, October 23 and 24

Tuesday - Notes were given in class - covered from the First Continental Congress to the Battle of Concord.  We read two accounts of Paul Revere's ride and talked about primary and secondary sources.  Quiz on causes of the Revolution.  Had a short Town Hall meeting - questions were answered from the Tory and Patriot perspectives.  No homework

Wednesday - took notes in class.  Worksheet on Battle of Lexington and Concord (finish for homework if necessary). 

Thursday you will receive a Webquest on the importance of Georgia in the Revolution.  You will have about ten days to complete this .

Georgia History Assignments for Monday, October 22, 2007

Today in class we completed the Patriot/Loyalist organizer.  We then talked about primary source documents and how to judge them as far as relevancy - we will use the APPARTS technique.  You should have the APPARTS sheet in the class note section of your notebook.   We then read a short account of the Boston Massacre and talked about it as a primary source.  There are four questions from this reading that need to be finished by class tomorrow - answer them on the back of the reading.  Quiz tomorrow on the causes of the American Revolution.  Use your organizer (guided note-taking activity) from Friday, your note cards and your text to study for this.  We also discussed the following quote from John Adams:  "The destruction of tea is so bold, so daring, so firm....it must have such important and lasting consequences that I can't help considering it at turning point in history."  Do you consider the Boston Tea Party a turning point?  Within your lifetime, can you think of any turning points in history?

On Friday we took notes in guided reading form on the causes of the Revolution.  In some classes, we started discussing the differences between the Loyalists and the Patriots; but since we were not all at the same place, there was no homework assigned!

Georgia History Assignemnts for Thursday, October 18, 2007

In class today we worked in groups for 30 minutes to get th e"letters to the editor" written and the political cartoons drawn.  After presenting these in class, we responded in our notes to one of the presentations.  After that, we added the Townshend Act explanation to a note card.  There was no homework.

Georgia History Assignments for Tuesday, Oct. 16

Today in class we used the organizer of the three "types" of colonies and answered six questions.  After that, the assignment was given to look up the vocabulary words listed in the brown boxes on pages 149 and 153 - there are 15 total.  The you were to read pages 149 to 165.  For classwork/homework you need to have six index cards on which you write a brief explanation of the following events:

1.  French and Indian War

2.  Proclamation of 1763

3.  Sugar Act

4.  Stamp Act

5.  Intolerable Acts

6.  Declaration of Independence

As you write a description of each of these, be sure to emphasize how they impacted Georgia.  The cards should be complete when you come to class tomorrow.
