Georgia History Assignments for Thursday, September 21

In class today we read an article about Desoto and his "ambulatory meat locker" of pigs.  After discussing the article, we made a list of words from the article that we were unsure of the meaning.  The four that everyone needs to look up are: nascent, porcine, nadir, abattoir.  Be sure that you know the definition of these words by tomorrow.  Your homework for tonight is to read and take notes on pages 110-113.

Georgia History Assignments for Tuesday, Sept. 18

Today in class we talked about the test that will be given tomorrow and tried to clear up any questions or blank spaces on the explorer organizer.  I did pass out a "Things You Need To Know" sheet.  For those who left this sheet at school, here is a short version.

Information on pages 100-109 in text

Articles, Notes, Charts and Organizers from class and homework

Columbus

Major colonizing countries

Major explorers

Order of the explorers and destinations of the explorers

Impact of Europeans on Native Americans/Impact of Native Americans on Europeans

Primary motives for exploration

DeSoto and any other explorer who came through Georgia.

REMEMBER - your ESSAY is due at the very beginning of class as is your explorer organizer with the map (completed) on the back.

Because of Early Release, this test will be shorter than usual.  As I stressed in class, most people will miss questions because they do not read the test carefully - so, be sure to read the question and all answers very carefully!

Georgia Studies Assignments for Monday, Sept. 17

In class today we talked briefly about the Constitution - today is Constitution Day!  We will do an activity related to this day after we have our test.  We also read an article called The Ecological Revolution that discussed the importance and impact of plants and animals brought to the New World by the Europeans and those from the New World taken back to Europe.  We wrote questions then about the article - discussing how questions are layered (we decided that we, as students,  like level one questions - simple recall)  I gave out a sheet on writing expository essays with the question that will need to be answered and turned in on Wed. before the test.  See me if you have any questions.  I will give you a "What you need to know for the test"  sheet on Wed.  If you have time tonight you might want to re-read pages 100 - 109.  We will review for the test tomorrow in class.
