March 31, 2008

Mon., 3/31

I admit to being very disappointed in the efforts of most of my students in the SUMMER work that we began on Friday. Unless you read carefully from the very beginning, you will miss so much that is important in the novel. SO....I changed today's plans. After you completed an important CRCT practice packet ( come in early tomorrow if you were not here today), you were to go back if needed to reread and correct/complete the questions you did not answer.Tonight's homework is to complete the assignment for chapters 3 & 4. Hopefully, this will get you caught up and ready to discuss tomorrow in class.

Fri., 3/28

Today was a very quiet day in class as you began reading your SUMMER novel. By Monday, be sure to have created 6 character charts to fill in. You also began and need to complete reading and answering the questions to chp. 1 & 2. Your vocab lists may be written neatly in pencil. I noticed that several of you got so involved with the story that you read ahead. Please do not read too far in advance. Have a terrific weekend!

Thurs., 3/27

Yesterday we spent in the Media Center so that you could begin your research efforts for our novel study with a partner. Unfortunately, this site went down as I tried to give you the directions for home. Today you are taking the lit. terms quiz announced earlier and then continuing your research by reading an article I printed for you. Tonight you are to complete the research by going to the info posted under my name ( not in this blog) on the Dickerson Web site. You may also find info on the approved county research sites. DO NOT simply "google" the info.

Tues., 3/25

Today in class we organized notebooks for the fourth quarter. Then you took a parts of the sentence pre-test to see if you could omit some review. I hope you did well. You also picked up an activity chart for our novel study which you need to complete tonight. We will do research in the Media Center tomorrow to begin our unit, and we will have the lit. terms quiz ( you have already made the study cards) on Thurs. Begin your study tonight.

Mon., 3/24

I hope you had a very special holiday weekend. The snow shower today was quite a surprise, wasn't it? Today in class, you presented your copy of the novel SUMMER OF MY GERMAN SOLDIER, which you have had over 3 weeks' notice to find. Several of you are using a former student's copy; others have either checked out or purchased one. It will be hard to do a good novel study without a copy!?! We also reviewed two class activities from last week. Tomorrow we will organize your notebooks for the final quarter and then begin some activities for your novel study.

Wed., 3/19

As I write this, the rains have not yet come in. I hope we get the needed water without the storm effect. Today in class, we spent most of the time reviewing our State Writing Scores. You will be taking them home tomorrow with your high school placement materials. Then we checked DGP #7. Work carefully to complete DGP#8 for homework. Tomorrow we will be in the lab completing a challenging sentence construction activity.

Mon., 3/17

Top o' the mornin' to ye! I hope you remembered to wear your green. We all seem to celebrate St. Patty's Day whether we're Irish or not. Today in class we organized and turned in the unit mystery packet. Then you tied some previous interest to a review of comma rules. Please come in tomorrow to complete the overhead activity if you were absent today. Tonight you are to very CAREFULLY review your work on the DGP #7 and the Writing Rules of the Road #7. Make any corrections that you need to before class tomorrow.

March 14, 2008

Fri., 3/14

Today you performed well (I hope!) on the mystery unit test. Then you turned in your 7 story charts. If you were absent today, the makeup is Mon., @ 8:15. The quarter ends today, so enjoy your weekend while I do some grading ( and watch a lot of basketball!).

Thurs., 3/13

What a great review activity! We had time to check over all the story charts in class. I hope you listened out for some very important hints! Remember to bring the final charts to class to turn in after our test tomorrow. After 2 days of review, I expect you all to do very well on the test. Happy Studying!
