It's hard to believe that we are already to the last day of January! Today in class you demonstrated your expertise of the Writing terms and process. Then you began an analysis of Paul Dunbar's poems which we will discuss together in class tomorrow. Follow the directions of the worksheet very carefully.

Tues., 1/29

Today in class you read "The Finish of Patsy Barnes" by Paul L. Dunbar in our lit. book. On page 563 you are to answer all the parts of #3,4,5 questions. Don't forget to restate each part of the question in your answer. I am looking for very articulate,thoughtful responses. I really hope you enjoy the story. Remember that tomorrow we will be in the E3 lab with Ms. Pearce for a special activity. The Writing Unit test is on Thurs. We have reviewed all the parts in class, so study hard...esp.the vocab & your notes on tha quiz sheet.

Today is the last day of our shortened,crazy schedule. We spent part of thetime reviewing some lit. terms and the rest looking through the Book Fair. If you forgot to bring $,check, or credit card, you can spend time in the Fair before noon tomorrow. I hope you are already studying for the Writing Unit Test which is on Thurs.

Today we watched an amusing video on literature terms and then discussed it. If your lit. terms are completely done, you have no homework. We will be going to the Book Fair on Monday, so bring your $ ,a credit card,or a check ( if your parents trust you with unlimited money!). You can also buy before school on Tues. after you have negotiated with your folks.We have had to postpone the Writing Test until Thurs. due to another conflict. Sorry about that!

After we corrected your vocab quiz from yesterday,we looked for a "Pattern of error" and the "reinforcement" of good study skills. This process can really improve your grades across the board. Remember that your test on the Writing Process is next Wed. and will follow the study guide we reviewed today in class.

Today in class you took a writing terms vocab quiz after we evaluated your notecards. You picked up the second sheet of lit. terms to define. All terms are due in class on Friday to begin our review. Work some tonight, in class tomorrow, and you'll not have too much to complete Thurs. evening.

So sorry! A student let me know this AM that I forgot to save my Friday entry before I closed out. My bad....as you all would say! I gave no literal homework since it was a holiday weekend. I remind you to complete your writing notecards and study for the writing terms quiz on Wed. In class today, you began work on the literature terms for our next unit. The writing unit test will be next Wed., the 30th. Don't forget to look for an article on MLK, Jr. for our look at his speeches. The paper had lots of info over the weekend.

Drum roll!! Tomorrow is the BIG day for the state writing test. Remember to bring #2 pencils and non-erasable blue or black  pens! Today in class we reviewed the rubric and the most frequently asked questions about the test itself. There was no new info...just a reminder or two! Sleep well; eat breakfast, and get ready to show off all you have learned!!

I hope you had a relaxing weekend but remembered to shop for your writing supplies for the state writing test on Wed. You will need #2 pencilS and non-erasable blue or black penS. Today in class you checked the Writing Review you completed on Friday, and then you evaluated your mock writing test, filled out an organizational form, and then began a writing review of #7 & #8. Please complete the worksheet for homework.

Thanks for making it a good first week back! We are in a final review for the State Writing Test next Wed., the 16th. Remember that you need blue or black non-erasable pens and #2 hard pencils for the exam. Today in class you completed the writing review you began yesterday. I hope you have remembered to discuss the letter Mrs. Brink sent home to your parents. Please make sure you have organized all of your writing handouts to make review even easier.
