We discussed and took notes on Chapter 2 Section 1.  Periods 2-7 took the Directed Reading quiz today. 

REMINDER:  Bring in the payment for the CRCT workbooks.  Make checks payable to Dickerson.  Thanks!

Tuesday 8/30/11

Today was the Chapter 1 Test.  Make-up:  September 2nd at 8:10 in Ms. Roth's room.

Read Chapter 2 Section 1.  Be prepared to discuss in class on Wednesday.

Remember to bring in the CRCT workbook money.

Monday 8/29/11

We corrected Friday's homework and reviewed for the Chapter 1/Safety Symbol Test.  Study, study, study!Each student received a letter about the CRCT workbook.  The letter is attached to today's blog.

Friday 8/26/11

Students completed the graphing lab today.  Anyone not in class must collect their own data and create a bar graph and a pie graph from that data.  Each student picked up a metrics review sheet.  This review must be completed by Monday (it is attached to today's blog).

REMINDERS:

1.  Chapter 1/Safety Symbols Test is on August 30th.

2.  Please get your Science supplies in ASAP, especially the quart Ziploc bags.

Thursday 8/25/11

The assignments from Friday and Monday were due today.

We discussed the graphing packet and began collecting data for tomorrow's graphing lab.  Anyone not present today must get the data from their lab group and create the graphs on their own.

For parents that could not attend tonight's open house I have attached the newsletter that was handed out in my classroom.  It was created using Publisher.

Wednesday 8/24/11

We worked together to complete the Section 4 flash cards.  Each student should have picked up a What Is SI? worksheet, a Scientific Definitions worksheet, a Metrics worksheet, and a Graphing Tutorial packet.  We completed the first 3 practice sheets in class.  The graphing information will be used in class on Thursday.  Anyone that was absent may pick up the worksheets from the student folder (as we discussed the first day of school).

REMINDERS:

1.  Eighth grade open house for parents only will be on Thursday evening.

2.  Please bring in your science supplies.

3.  The Chapter 1/Safety Symbols Test is on August 30th.

 

Tuesday 8/23/11

We discussed Sections 3 and 4 of Chapter 1.  We made flash cards for Section 3.  We will make the flash cards for Section 4 on Wednesday. 

REMINDER: 

1. Chapter 1/Safety Symbol test is on August 30th.

2.  Please bring in your Science supplies (quart ziplock bags, paper towels) ASAP.

Monday 8/22/11

Any work not completed on Friday should have been completed today. In addition, read Section 3 of Chapter 1.  Complete the Section Review at the end of the section.  Do the Directed Reading for Section 3.  Read Section 4 of Chapter 1.  Complete the Section Review at the end of the section.  Do the Directed Reading for Section 4.  (The Directed Reading is attached to Friday's blog if you need another copy.)  All work is due on Thursday, August 25th.

What a great first week - you guys are awesome!  I am really enjoying getting to know you all!

Today's classwork assignment:  Complete the Section Reviews at the end of Section 1 and Section 2 of Chapter 1 in the textbook.  Answer in complete sentences.  Complete Section 1 and Section 2 of the Chapter 1 Directed Reading packet (attached to today's blog).  Any work not completed today may be completed in class on Monday.

1.  By Tuesday each student should have brought in a single serving-sized bag of Skittles (in the red bag).  We will be using them in a lab.

The safety symbol flash cards were checked today for a grade.  Safety symbols will be on the Chapter 1 Test.  Each student read Section 2 of Chapter 1 and we discussed it while taking notes.  We made flash cards together as a class.
