Friday 9/14/01

We went over the activities from Wednesday.  The next set of elements and your flash cards are due on Monday.  Meet me in the computer lab on Monday and Tuesday.  Study your flash cards.  Your test is on September 25th.

Have a great weekend!

Thursday 9/13/07

The students worked on the activities that were passed out on Wednesday for half the period.  The other half of the period was spent doing element bingo.  All elements on the element list are due on Monday.  You must have made flash cards for all of the elements.  The element flash cards will be checked for completeness on Monday.  You will have the third element quiz on Monday.  Your test has been moved to Tuesday, September 25th.

Wednesday 9/12/07

The students reviewed elements with an interactive memory internet game on the periodic table.  The students took a quiz on element symbols.  The last 12 elements are due on Monday (9/17/07).  Make flash cards for elements 31-42 (6th period - do elements 31-38).  Activity sheets were passed out.  We will play element bingo and work on the activity sheets in class on Thursday.  We will go over the work in class on Friday.  On Monday and Tuesday of next week we will be in the computer lab completing Chemistry web quests.  You have all of the notes that you will need for your test.  Your test will be on Friday, September 21st.

Monday's homework was collected for a homework grade.  We will go over it in class on Wednesday.  We continued our discussion of atoms and molecules.  We made flash cards.  The students were challenged using an interactive web site on subatomic particles and a web site on elements.  Each student had time to begin their homework, " What Atom Is This", in class.  Elements 16-30 are due on Wednesday.  Your test will be on September 21st.  It will be over the Atoms and Molecules unit.  Don't forget that there will be Metrics questions on every test/quiz that you take this year.

Monday 9/10/07

Reminder:  Element symbols 16-30 are due by Wednesday.  You should have made the element flash cards for them over the weekend.

We went over Friday's homework today in class.  We made flash cards for the Atoms and Molecules notes that we have taken at this point.  We discussed a shortcut for finding valence electrons when you have access to a Periodic Table.  You may use the table to do tonight's home work (element chart).  I continue to be available every morning for extra help.

Your test is scheduled for September 21st.

Friday 9/7/07

Took a pop quiz today.  The make-up will be Monday morning at 8:45 AM.  We learned how to calculate valence electrons using the diagonal rule.  Each student received a copy of the diagonal rule and a diagram of a modified Bohr Model to be used in valence electron calculations.  Each student had time to begin their homework in class in case there were any questions.  The two worksheets should be completed at home over the weekend.  The next set of 15 element symbols will be due on Wednesday (9/12/07).  Each student should make flash cards for elements 16-30.  (Reminder:  You have a periodic table in your agenda.)  I continue to be available every morning from 8:30 until 8:50 for Science help.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Thursday 9/6/07

We continued our discussion of atomic structure today.  We also discussed the effect of energizing electrons as we worked with the gas vapor tubes.  Continue reviewing your flash cards.  Tomorrow's class will be about determining valence electrons.  Your first test will be on September 21st.

Wednesday 9/5/07

Each student made element flash cards.  Those not completed in class are to be completed for homework.  We read Chapter 3 Section 1 in the textbook.  We began our discussion of atomic structure.  We read an article on Matter and included it in the notes section of the binder.  Continue reviewing your metrics and element flash cards.  You are required to review the flash cards a minimum of 15 minutes each night.

Due to a Science Department meeting on Thursday morning, I will not be available for extra help tomorrow.

Tuesday 9/4/07

Corrected the Metrics Review worksheet.  Read pages 1-13 in the textbook.  Completed pages 1-4 in the workbook.  Any work not completed in class should be completed for homework.

Friday 8/31/07

Each student recieved a textbook and a workbook today.  The Science summer reading book card was turned in today.  The Metrics project was concluded today with the graphing activity.  If you were absent, you need to get the data from your group's portfolio.  Then do a bar graph and a pie graph on your own.  We start the Matter unit on Tuesday.

Have a great Labor Day!
