5/12 - 5/16

The EOCT is Tuesday morning.  Be at school on time.  We will be meeting in the E4 computer lab right after homeroom.  Remember: The EOCT will count for 15 % of your 4th quarter math average.

Wednesday - Friday: Students will have a brief intro into piece-wise functions.  We will look at some equations and some accompanying graphs.

Week of May 12th - 16th

Students will be working on a Review Project this week in math class.  Students will work in groups and will complete the following 4 sections of the project.  Part 1: Students will create a worksheet for their unit.  The worksheet will include vocabulary words/definitions and 5 sample problems.  Part 2: Groups are expected to create an answer sheet for their worksheet.  Part 3:  Students are going to create a Jeopardy Game with 16 items (4x4 game board) that covers questions from their unit.  The game will be graded on the completion of the requirements, accuracy of the questions and answers, and on the group's creativity.  Part 4: Groups will present (play) their Jeopardy games in class on Thursday and Friday at the end of this week.  This will allow all students to review the material from each unit.  Projects will be graded as a test grade.

Next week is exam week.  The week will go as follows:

Monday: Review day (math) 

Tuesday: Math / Science

Wednesday: Foreign Language or Reading / English

Thursday: Social Studies

Friday: Last Day of 8th Grade! (activities)

5/5 - 5/9

This week, students will be completing Unit 8: Circles which is Chapter 10 in their Geometry books.  We will cover sections 10.7 - 10.9 the first half of the week and then have a review day on Thursday in order to prepare for the Test on Friday, May 9th.

Week of May 5 - 9th

This week students will be completing Chapter 14 in their textbook.  Students will be learning how to subtract and multiply polynomials, and will be participating in a couple classroom activities this week in order to prepare for the Test on Friday.

Chapter 14: Polynomials TEST (sections 14.1 - 14.6) will be this Friday, May 9th.

4/28 - 5/2

Students will continue working on Unit 8: Circles and Spheres.  A TEST will be given over this material the week after CRCTs have been completed.  Most likely, the test will be on Friday, May 9th.  However, this date will change if we complete the chapter earlier.

Reading Cards/AR Tests are due to Math teachers this month.  Reading Cards/AR tests are to be completed and turned in by next Wednesday, April 30th.  However, I am going to give an extension of two days and allow students to turn in their cards and tests until Friday, May 2nd.

Progress Reports go home April 30th.  These are to be signed by a parent/guardian and returned.

April 28 - May 2

Students will begin Chapter 14: Operations of Polynomials.  Students will learn to simplify, add, subtract, and multiply polynomials.  This will be the last chapter we cover in math this year.  We will have a quiz on sections 14.1 - 14.3 on Thursday, May 1st.   A test over all of Ch 14 will be given on Friday, May 9th.

Tonight (April 24) is the last chance to take an online Practice CRCT Math test.  You can do up to three tests and earn up to 3 points extra credit on your final exam grade for the year.

CRCTs begin this Wednesday. The Math part of the 8th grade CRCT will be given on Friday.

All week students will be working on practice problems that are similar to the questions found on the CRCT test.  Students should also spend time on their own reviewing their notes and old quizzes and tests from this year; these will also help them prepare for Friday.

EXTRA CREDIT:   A letter about online CRCT MATH practice tests is going home today.  The letter gives information about 3 different online tests that are available for students.  Students will receive 1 extra bonus point on their final math exam in May for each test that they take and score an 80% or better on.

April 14th - 18th

Welcome back...I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break. 

This week Math 8 students will be working on word problems from Unit 7: Systems of Equations.  We will work on solving these word problems for two days.  Then, starting Wednesday, students will begin reviewing for the CRCTs.  Students will be working from various tests, booklets, and worksheets in order to practice problems and prepare for next week. 

CRCTs start next Wednesday, April 23rd.  The math portion of the CRCT will be on Friday, 4/25/08.
