7th & 8th grade Fall Concert Nov. 1st Reminder

7th graders need to be in the theater at 6:15 p.m. in your formal concert attire. Sign in class sheets will be taped up front on the stage. Check off your name when you arrive. This is for a test grade so be focussed on stage.

8th graders need to be in the theater at 7:15 p.m. in your formal concert attire. Sign in class sheets will be taped up front on the stage. Check off your name when you arrive. This is for a test grade so be focussed on stage.

*Disney permission forms and first payment of $150 was due last week.

Note: Anyone that misses a concert will need to sing your part to all of the songs for Mrs. Dobbins and I next week by yourself.

6th grade Honor Chorus Auditions Monday, October 31 at 8:15 a.m.

If your 6th grade Honor Chorus student would like to audition for a spot in the GMEA 6th grade Honor Chorus he/she may come to the audition in the chorus room at 8:15 am.

1. There will only be three chosen to represent Dickerson MS.

The dates involve February 10 - 11, 2012 at UGA's Campus Tifton Conference Center. Students chosen must be able to stay overnight with your parent. We will get a list of hotels from which to choose. The cost is $30 if chosen. Do not send in money until we choose the 3 students.

Honor Chorus Rehearsal Cancellations ***Please note!

All future Honor Chorus Rehearsals have been cancelled in the mornings being that all of you now know your parts. Be ready for the after school evening rehearsal at Palmer MS on Nov. 7th. Be on time. See previous blog for information letter that was sent home earlier. Nov. 8th wear your DMS Navy t-shirt to the day rehearsal and be prepared to change into your formal concert attire at the dinner break. You may eat and change at home being that you are all close to Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.

Honor Chorus 2nd audition today at 4:30 p.m.

All Honor Chorus students will report back to Dickerson MS at 4:30 p.m. and report to the band room for instructions. Parents can wait in your cars as the audition will not take that long. As soon as your child is finished we will let them out into the parking lot on the sidewalk for pick up.

Below is the Honor Chorus newletter with the second audition requirements. Please make sure that you and your child reads this and is prepared for this audition on October 27th at 4:30 pm

Dear Parents and Honor Chorus Students,

          Just a reminder that you will have a rehearsal on Wednesday, October 26^th at 8am and on October 27^th you will come back to DMS at 4:30 p.m. to sing for your 2^nd audition all of your Honor Chorus pieces. This audition is new this year to make sure that all students know their parts to all songs completely. If you do not pass the second audition you will not be allowed to sing in Honor Chorus this year. It is critical that you know all of your parts as mandated by GMEA.

          You have been practicing with us on our early morning rehearsals to prepare for this but the major work needs to come from you at home either practicing with the CD Mrs. Smith gave you or the on line website that has all songs and your part being sung. The site is listed on the DMS Choral blog. Download your songs and practice hard at home all of this week, the weekend and next week. We want you all to pass this audition so that you all can represent DMS at the event.

          If you pass the second audition the mandatory Monday evening rehearsal, November 7th is at Palmer Middle School located at 690 North Booth Road; Kennesaw, GA 30144. 770-591-5020. You will need to eat before arriving to the school by 5:45 pm and bring your Honor Chorus folder/music & a pencil. You may bring a water bottle only. Please be prompt as the rehearsal will begin on time (6pm). You are expected to be at this rehearsal, no excuses. Parents are expected to take their child to and from this rehearsal. Please be there to pick up your child by 8:00 p.m. They will be released at 8:15pm to go home with you.

          Tuesday, November 8^th (Teacher workday) your child needs to be at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, 955 Johnson Ferry Rd; Marietta, GA 30068 to check in at 8:15 a.m. The rehearsal will begin from 8:30 – 5 p.m. Wear your DMS Red t-shirt and nice long blue jeans to the day rehearsal. Lunch and a snack will be provided. Bring a sack lunch if you cannot eat pizza. At 4:45pm parents need to pick up your child to take him/her to dinner in the area. They will need to eat, change into their concert attire (DMS concert dress/tux shirt, black socks & shoes) and report back to the church by 7 pm to warm up. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. You will need to take your child home after the entire concert ends. Remember that the middle schools will sing a final number with the high school groups.

Disney first payment due with permission slip

The Disney first payment of $150 was due November 17th. If you haven't turned it in please get it in this week as we will begin to make installment payments to the travel agency soon and secure our Cobb County approved busses. We also need your signed permission slip turned in so that we can see how many have chosen to go on the trip.

Remember this is not a mandatory trip and will not in any way affect your grade in chorus. It is strictly extracurricular. When chaperones are chosen later by the administration we will let you know the cost of the trip. It will be less than the students pay as any discounts from the travel agency will go to the adults on the trip. A recap of strikes earned so far will be included in your conference packet next week. Please sign this sheet and return it to us. If you do not get a strike sheet your child has no strikes or outs. We will send another update the end of December and/or January.

7th & 8th grade Concert Nov. 1 Information

7th grade & 8th grade Choral Concert is Nov. 1st at your assigned time. The 7th grade choruses will report to the theater at 6:15 pm for warm ups. The concert will be at 6:30 pm or possibly a few minutes early if all have arrived. Be on time in your concert attire. Black dress; Black shoes; Boys: Tux shirt, nice black slacks (no jeans), black socks and black dress shoes. The 8th grade time to report to the theater is 7:15pm in your concert attire. Same as the 7th grade concert attire listed above. Don't be late as the 8th grade may also start a few minutes early if all are ready to start. We will begin by 7:30 pm at the latest. Make sure you have a ride to and from the concert. Each concert will last approx. 30 - 45 minutes.

Change in Combined rehearsal dates for 7th & 8th grade choruses

7th & 8th grade combined rehearsals in the morning have been cancelled.

We will combine both classes on Tuesday October 25 during the day. No need to come early on Oct. 21 or Oct. 27th.

Honor Chorus Rehearsal this week and some additional rehearsal changes as of 10/17

Honor Chorus students will rehearse this Wednesday, Oct. 19th at 8 am.Listen to your voice parts for the remaining songs so that you at least have an idea of how your part goes prior to Wednesday.

The remaining rehearsals are:

October 26 last morning before 2nd auditions on Oct 27th. 8 am in the chorus room.

2nd audition Thursday, Oct 27th at 4:45 pm (Your parents will have to bring you back to school that day as it is early release week.)

Rehearsals: October 28th 8 am; October 31st 8 am; October 7th 8 am and evening (Eat before going to this rehearsal.)

October 8th all day rehearsal/performance Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. Check in 8 am

Honor Chorus & All State Chorus Switch Reh dates this week only

Honor Chorus was originally scheduled for this Friday, October 14th but will instead meet on Wednesday, October 12th at 8 am
