Brave Game Choir Selection Process

Tomorrow we will be listening to all 7th graders to select the Braves Choir for Sept. 28th. Unfortunately we are only allowed to select 50 out of our 160 that are currently enrolled in 7th grade chorus. We will be listening for tone quality, correct pitches/rhythm and blend as a smaller group. If selected for the group this group will ride the bus(s) to and from the game with no exceptions and must attend all morning combined rehearsals.

Braves Game rehearsals: Sept 2 (Fri 8am); Sept 18 (Friday 8:15am); Sept 23 (Friday 8:15am); Sept 28 (Wednesday 8:15am) Game on Sept 28th Report to the chorus room at dismissal time. Red DMS t-shirts and long blue jeans that day. We will provide a snack. Bring money for food at the game.

If your child is not selected he/she may still go to the game with you as his/her chaperone. We will be selling reduced priced group tickets in the next week or two to the game and all 7th grade families are welcome to attend.

All State Chorus deadline for $20 registration fee Sept 2

If you are in the 7th or 8th grade chorus and wish to audition for All State Chorus you need to have your form and money ($20) in by September 2nd. Make checks out to DMS and mark it All State Chorus Aud. Please give your green form to Mrs. Smith so that she can process you into the GMEA system. All practice dates are on your calendar. These are a must as this is a very hard first audition. We will prepare you.

CHORUS INFORMATION SHEETS/BLANKET FIELD TRIP FORMS DUE

6th, 7th & 8th grade chorus students have all received their choral calendar, personal information sheet and blanket field trip permission form. Please fill these out and return them this week.

Theory books are due already for 7th & 8th graders. 6th graders have a week or two to purchase one. There is a sheet that went home with information on where to purchase one nearby.

Change in morning rehearsal date for Brave's Game singers

Due to a teacher conflict with a training session we will need to bump up the combined Braves Rehearsal to Tuesday, August 30th at 8 am Those singing at the game must be in attendance that morning for this important first rehearsal. Please mark your calendars if you are chosen to sing in this group. The choral manual has the old date of the 31st.

Concert attire for all grade levels

7th & 8th grade chorus members wear the following to concert:

Girls: Long black concert dresses that will be ordered the week of Sept 1. Fittings will be Sept. 1 & 2. They also wear solid black closed toe and closed heel shoes. Flats are perfect due to the length of time they need to stand while performing. No jewelry or flashy barretts/headbands. 8th grade girls need to try on their dresses to see if they still fit or order a new one. If you are new you will need to order a new dress for this year.

Boys: Simulated Tux dress shirt that will be measured and ordered the week of Sept. 1 also. Fittings will be Sept. 1 & 2. They also need to purchase long black dress slacks, black socks and solid black dress shoes from a store of your choice. 8th graders will need to check to see if your shirt still fits you otherwise trade or order a new one this year.

6th graders joining chorus this year will purchase a Red DMS Choral T-shirt after they are placed in a class and will wear long nice (no holes) blue jeans. No capris please. They can wear sneakers with the jeans. Order forms will be going home after they are placed in a class next week.

8th graders will need the navy and purchase the red DMS Choral T-shirt for those planning on going to Orlando for Disney this year.

7th grders will need the red DMS Choral T-shirt for this year. If you have lost or outgrown yours you will need to order a new one.

New 6th Graders wishing to join chorus

We are excited to meet all of you new 6th graders this fall. We heard some classes yesterday and you are awesome singers. As you go through the rotation process this week and into next week you will get to sing with and play some of the band & orchestra instruments of your choice. At the end of the rotation time next week you will need to choose either chorus, band, orchestra or just connections (art/PE/Health). You may only choose one program from the music department. The other hour you will be placed in either (Health, PE or Art). Of course we hope that you choose chorus as it is a terrific program and you will get a chance to develop strong friendships these next three years. All of our programs are top notch so you will fit in no matter which program you choose. Have fun trying everything that DMS has to offer. We look forward getting to know you better as the year continues.

7th & 8th Grade Chorus Theory Books

All 7th & 8th grade chorus students need to have a "One Minute Theory Book" in class by August 29th.

We will begin our theory assignments after that so your child needs it as some assignments will be for a grade.

Your child also needs a Duo-Tang folder (with brads/pockets) for class. Put 10-15 sheets of paper in it for notes, quizzes and/or written tests. Bring a pen or pencil each day. It is requested that 7th graders bring a blue folder and 8th grade bring a red folder. Put your first and last name on it and your class period: 7-1  7-2  8-1  8-2. That way if he/she leaves it out in the room we know to which class it belongs.
