New Chorus Testing Dates

6th grade after reviewing all week will take the test tomorrow, Friday, March 4th. The words and answers are all on the blog.

7th & 8th grade will review one more day (Wednesday March 16th) and take the test on Thursday, March 17th. The words and answers are on the blog for you to study.

7th grade LGPE festival is Monday, March 14th.  Chaperones need to be here by 9:45 a.m.

Students need to wear their concert attire to school that day and report to the theater by 10:15 a.m. for warm-ups. Bring money for lunch at the mall food court. We won't be home until approx. 4:30 p.m. so make sure you have transportation home that day.

8th grade LGPE festival is Tuesday, March 15th. Chaperones need to be here by 9:45 a.m.

Post Test on Musical Terms: All Classes Friday, Mar 4 6th gr and Thursday, Mar 17th: 7th & 8th gr.

The following terms will be on the post test for Friday, March 4th (6th grade) and Thursday, March 17th (7th & 8th gr). Please study these terms for the scantron test. We gave you a review sheet and have studied these in class.

mezzo piano (med soft, symbol mp); piano (soft, symbol p); pianissimo (very soft, symbol pp); mezzo forte (med loud, symbol mf); fortissimo (very loud, symbol ff); crescendo (gradually get louder, symbol a longer <); decrescendo (gradually get softer, symbol a longer >); forte (loud, symbol f); accelerando (gradually get faster, abbrev. accel.); ritardando (gradually get slower, abbrev. rit.); fermata (hold note until director cuts you off, symbol looks like a curved line over a dot); staccato (short and detached, symbol is a dot under or over a note); legato (smooth and connected, symbol a curved line); coda (the very last section of a piece designated by the symbol 0 with a + sign in it); II:  :II  (repeat a section again).

Picture Day at DMS Thursday, March 3

"School Pictures will be taken tomorrow, Thursday, March 3rd.  Picture package information and envelopes were sent home on Tuesday and extras are available in the front office.  Pictures are pre-paid, so only students who are purchasing pictures will be photographed."

Reminder about 8th Gr. Pre-Festival Concert

Our mandatory Pre-Festival concert is scheduled for Thursday evening, March 3, 2011 at Walton HS. You are to wear your concert attire and be at Walton HS no later than 7:15 p.m. for warm ups. The boys will meet in the chorus room and the girls will warm up in the orchestra room. We will head to the risers at 7:23 p.m. The concert should only last 45 min - 1 hour at the most.

For those going on the Disney Trip, please be reminded that you will get 2 outs for not attending a concert and will need to write a report on a singer of your choice.
