DAILY AGENDA: MONDAY - 10/22/07

  • if you were absent on Friday, there is a make-up quiz on the Guided Reading for chapter 5
  • 3RD PERIOD ONLY: the video streaming video on Chemical Reactions - notes required (entry #17 in your notebook)
  • create a graphic organizer from section 5.1 (pps. 145, 146, & 147) titled: Evidence for Chemical Reactions (#18).  You must use the format described in class and summarize the material, as well as, illustrate and color the illustrations.  This activitiy will be due on Tuesday for a grade.

HOMEWORK:  physical and chemical changes w.s. (#19) in the notebook.  Be sure to complete both sides of the worksheet.

**IMPORTANT**  There will be a balancing equation work session on Wednesday morning at 8:15 a.m. for the students who failed the quiz. If you attend the study session, you will have a chance to retake the quiz and improve your score!!!

  • video streamed movie:  Chemical Reactions (18 mins. followed by oral quiz)
  • created graphic organizer for Evidence of chemical reactions

I will have another help session on Tuesday morning at 8:15 a.m. for students who failed the Balancing Equation Quiz.  More information will be given on Monday...stay tuned!

AGENDA FOR 10/16/07:

  • We reviewed the Power Point on balancing equations
  • We worked sample problems with partners

ASSIGNMENT:  Balancing Equations W.S. (entry 15)

There will be a follow-up balancing equation quiz on Thursday, October 18th.

We are continuing in chapter 5 with four types of chemical reactions:

  1. decomposition
  2. synthesis
  3. single replacement
  4. double replacement

MAKE-UP TEST FOR STUDENTS ABSENT ON FRIDAY FOR THE CHEMICAL BONDING TEST IS WEDNESDAY, 10/17/07 AT 8:15 A.M. IN MY ROOM!  No exceptions unless previously cleared with Mrs. Roth!  :)

HAPPY THURSDAY!

Agenda for 10/11/07: 

  • Discussed the outline for the test on Friday - Create a study guide over the concepts covered in the outline!
  • Wrote steps for balancing equations
  • Balanced equations

In addition to the outline, the test will cover section 4.1, 4.2 and 5.2 from the textbook.  All of the entries in your notebook will also be covered.  You will only be given no more than three equations to balance on the test.  The equations will be very similar to the problems we worked in class Wednesday and Thursday. As always, there will be a help session Friday morning at 8:15 a.m. in my classroom for anyone who wants to attend!  Make sure you come with questions that need further explanation!

MONDAY:  DAILY AGENDA FOR 10/8/07

  •                 Completed notes on covalent bonding (#9) in your notebook
  •                 Checked the chemical bonds activity from Friday (#8)
  •                 Assigned Classwork/Homework: Read Chapter 5 section 1 and complete the study    guide that corresponds with the reading.  This is entry #10 in the notebook.

COMING ATTRACTIONS:  TEST ON BONDING AND CHEMICAL EQUATIONS ON FRIDAY!

We have almost made it!  Testing is almost over - only one more day!  Yea!

Daily Agenda:  Today we discussed the Electron Dot Diagram.   

                        Classwork/Homework:  We are using the periodic table to complete an assignment drawing electron shell configurations and Lewis Dot Diagrams.  If you do not finish the work in class it becomes HOMEWORK.

FRIDAY:  IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT- YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO AND WILL COMPLETE IT ON FRIDAY WHILE OTHER STUDENTS ARE DOING A LAB.  The homework is necessary to be successful on the lab!

FRIDAY:  We are doing the Covalent Bonding Marshmallow Lab.
