COMBINATIONS OF ATOMS

Atoms of elements combine chemically to form new substances called compounds

Molecules: atoms share the electrons in the outer-most portion of the electron cloud (level).  This combined atom forms a molecule.

Example: H2O - water is a compound of molecules

Remember compounds are:

     1. two or more elements

     2. separated chemically

     3. New substances are made

     4. A type of matter that has properties different from the properties of each of the original elements in it.
