ON LEVEL - first worked on their vocabulary lessons. After the vocabulary lesson, the students listened to The Lightning Thief.
AC Classes read from Gifted Hands, The Ben Carson Story. They were given a plot diagram to fill in as they read through the book.
ALl Classes turned in their T-read or Treat reports on a fiction book and the related parts from a non-fiction book.
No homework tonight!!!
On Monday and Tuesday of this week, all classes completed writing letters for The Bert Show to send to our troops overseas. The letters held heart felt messages that thanked our soldiers for their sacrafices and giving up their time to protect our country.
ON LEVEL continued to listen to The Lightning Thief and started working on their vocabulary lesson. The vocabulary lesson says to:

Check off the items as they are completed. Then attach them to the back of this coversheet. (Standard ELA7R1. )
Write each word 4 times each, spelling the word correctly each time you write the word.
Write the word and its correct definition
Complete the pages in the workbook that go with the lesson you are completing. Write the complete sentences as you work. No one word answers.
Study the words – spelling and definitions – with your partner
Complete the test with your partner. The partners will take turns calling the vocabulary words out to the other person for them to spell correctly on their paper. After each person has a turn spelling the words, the person calling the words will check the paper for correct spelling and grade the paper. It is wise to do a practice session before the graded test.
Complete the definition test on each unit. You can get this test from the teacher.
Staple all papers together and turn in to your teacher. You will be responsible for one vocabulary unit per week through the end of the quarter.
AC classes are working with a partner to read Gifted Hands, The Ben Carson Story. Students read the first 20 pages and wrote what they thought was the exposition, and what they thought the climax would be. They listed any rising action that would contribute to the climax. Students used the Book Map to help locate information about the plot of a story.
THURSDAY WE GO TO THE BOOK FAIR!!! Students can bring money to get their own copy of currently popular books. There are also many books for gifts and stuff for other needs. Each class will go to the book fair to look and buy.
Today in reading we enjoyed pleasure reading and checked in the Reading Log. A student loses 10 points per day that the reading log is late.
AC classes enjoyed meeting the author, Getson. They got to hear her reasons for writing her book.

ON LEVEL Today we listened to the book The Lightning Thief as students followed along in their book.
AC Students read Dry Souls by Denise Getson as they get ready to meet the author tomorrow during 6th and 7th periods. Students need to formulate 5 good questions for the author's presentation.
Our day also included time on the Olweus Program to help us learn how to turn bullying around. Students have signed the pledge of Rachel's Challenge and Dickerson's Challenge to pass on kindness. Our greatest reward is when we slow down and help others.
Today ALL classes went to the media center to preview the book fair. We watched a video on some of the books that will be offered at the bookfair. Students then returned to the room to read The Lightning Thief (on level) or Dry Soul.
7th graders will attend the dance after school today for the fall fling. Students need to bring a sweater or jacket to wear off and on during the day with the new weather changes.

AC and On Level classes completed a warm up on Social Studies. We went over what you needed to know to answer the question. Each student was given a copy of his or her lexile level and reading level. This is to guide them when they select a book. We went over the T-read or Treating form. This is due on OCTOBER 31 for a QUIZ GRADE. Be careful with your answers. Be sure you list facts from the Non-FIction book. Students in the ON LEVEL class listened to the Lightning Thief as they followed along in the book. AC classes read the book Dry Souls. Tomorrow we will go to the media center to preview the bookfair.
ON LEVEL and AC Classes - All classes went to the media center to go over the Tread or Treat worksheet. Mrs. Inman gave an excellent presentation on using non-fiction books to confirm or dispute information given in a fiction book. Students were to check out a non-fiction book to list information the student finds there to clarify the fiction book. Students were given candy or a treat when they checked out a fiction book and the complimentary non-fiction book. This assignment is due on October 31, 2011 - Monday. All answers should be given in grade level appropriate language. It is for a quiz grade.
All classes started going through a powerpoint that describes each part of a short story, play and novel. Students were given the time at the end of class to read and take AR tests. Grades on the AR section of the gradebook will be upgraded on Thursday after all students have completed the required tests.
