Assignments - Week of May 12-16

MONDAY: NO homework

TUESDAY: Complete TPFASTT's for all the Langston Hughes poems on the handout.

WEDNESDAY: QUIZ tomorrow over TPFASTT.

THURSDAY: Complete PFAST's of ee cummings poems - "In Just" and "maggie and millie and molly and mae". Remember that you need to take an AR test on/before next Thursday.

FRIDAY: Read your AR book.

TUESDAY: Complete prewrite for tribute poems as directed below:

Prewrite: Fill up a sheet of notebook paper listing words, phrases and expressions that connect to the person to whom you are paying tribute. Possible categories mayinclude the following: likes, dislikes, hobbies, activities, values.

WEDNESDAY: Complete rough drafts of tribute peoms as directed:

Rough Drafts: Select two of the tribute poems studied in class (one from Group A and one from Group B) and write a rough draft of a tribute poem for your person that models the style and form.

THURSDAY: Complete second-half of the front side of the sentence type worksheet. Review as necessary rules of capitalization and punctuation in preparation for tomorrow's quiz.

MONDAY: Cpmplete worksheets on capitalization for Wednesday. "Spitball in the Eye" vocabulary quiz will be given on Friday.

MONDAY: Revisit the Brain Ticklers questions. Complete work sheets as assigned. Remeber to review notes the test over usage which will be given tomorrow.

TUESDAY: No written homework. Read your outside reading book. You must take an AR test on/before March 31 which will count as a quiz grade in language arts.

WEDNESDAY: Complete the "Find the Errors" worksheets for Friday. Remember your Ar quiz must be taken on/before March 31.

THURSDAY: No new assignment.

FRIDAY: Read your outsiade library book.

Wednesday - Friday working in class on expository writing in the writing labs. Comparison/ contrast paper and new draft of research paper.

WEDNESDAY: Review work for usage test which will be given on Tuesday, March 25th. All work is due on Monday, March 24th.

MONDAY: Diagnostic Test on pronouns - Page 519 in Writing and Grammar.

TUESDAY:Page 526-Ex. 8,  Page 528 - Ex.10, and Page 529-Ex. 14.

WEDNESDAY:

  • Review Matrix for Unit Test on Shakespeare life, time, and works was distributed today and is due on Tuesday. The unit test will be given on Wednesday, March 12.
  • Complete the two worksheets (front and back) on pronoun usage.
  • Think of three suitable Shakespeare topics for a short (4-6 paragraph) comparison/contrast paper.

THURSDAY: Complete modified BUT chart for each of your three comparison/contrast ideas. Remember to add the SO WHAT? column.

FRIDAY: NO new assignment. Read your outside reading book.

Monday: Complete the following reflection in your literature spiral:

Lady Macbeth complains that what he desires is “achieved without content.” What do you think she means by this? Have you ever wanted something badly and then felt disappointed when you actually got it? Describe a time when this happened to you. Why do you think you were disappointed?
TUESDAY: Review for your Rock the SAT Quiz #4 - "Amazing." Write a response in your literature spiral concerning Macbeth as a tragic hero, what you consider to be his fatal flaw,  and why.
WEDNESDAY: No homework!
THURSDAY: Complete packet on recognizing appropriate sentence construction.
