September 30th...

Today, in class, we worked on some background information for the history of the Middle East.  I will have the paper available for you, however, the source is an atlas and that can't leave the room.  You will need to see me about how and when to make it up. 

 Why.....yes I am!   It seems that one of my new textbooks hitched a ride home with someone yesterday. This is from the class set!! It's critical that it comes back to school.  Please, if you find it, return it....no questions asked!! Parents...please be on the lookout for it, too.  It looks just like the textbook cover of the online version. Students have not been issued a hard copy of the textbook.

For homework....Be sure to know, word for word, the two definitions that you have in your notebook.  You will need to write the two sentences exactly as you have them, same order of words that are listed, and spelling counts. Memorize and practice writing them several times.

Also, the classwork from yesterday needs to be completed by Monday's class.  Chapter 5 section 1 is the online source.

For class today...

If you were absent today, Thursday, we worked out of our textbook.  If you will back at school tomorrow, Friday, I will give you the activity piece that you need at that time.  If not, feel free to email me and I will send it to you as an attachment.  This assignment is not due, completed, until Monday.

The other assignment that's due Monday is that you are to memorize the two definitions...one on what an ethnic group is and the other the definition for a religious group.  You need to be able to write the definition exactly the way you have it in your I.N.  Spelling counts!  Practice writing it several times.  Check your own spelling!

Good afternoon:

If you were absent on Monday, the make-up for the test is tomorrow, Wednesday, September 28th at 8:15.  Go to study hall and I will meet you there.  Try not to be late.

For homework tonight...

Please study the definition for ethnic group and religious group.  That was our lesson today.  You should be able to write them down word for word. Memorize!  Practice writing them! 

Friday, September 23...

Hello all my students...

Don't forget that we're having a test on Monday.  You have everything you need between your Interactive Notebook and Chapter 4 in the textbook. I handed out two things yesterday, Thursday, September 22.  One was the paper telling you what to focus your studying on, and the other was the tying together of the several days of map work that we did on climate, land use/natural resources and population distribution.  If you were absent on Thursday, feel free to email me and I will send, as an attachment, both of those two docs.

Wednesday, September 21st

For your test next Wednesday, please remember that the information in Chapter 4 plays an important part.  We had a pop quiz today on that chapter as it has been the main focus of your homework for quite awhile now.  Just five questions...and I could tell by the look on some of your faces that you probably hadn't spent very much time, so far, studying the material.

So...here is a study strategy that I would like all of you to try tonight.  As you begin studying the Chapter, and remember, you have already been reading it outloud, I want you to take bulleted notes only on the material that we have not talked about in class.  Keep the information short and to the point.  Pay attention to everything on the page, that includes pictures and captions, graphs and charts. Line up your bullets one underneath the other.  Use a clean line for each bullet.  Do not write down the information that is already in your I.N.  When you are finished, you then have your study guide that is textbook specific.  You don't need to go back to the textbook again if you don't want to.

The test will be multiple choice.

Today...we finished some assignments that were in various stages of completion. Notebooks are up-to-date and we are beginning a new element of the geography standard.

Remember....test next Monday, the 26th - Focus on your textbook Chapter 4 and everything in your I.N. - especially the "B" side of your notebook! This week's work is also included.

All classes:

Test coming Monday, September 26th, on Chapter 4 and everything in your Interactive Notebook including what we do next week in class.  Don't wait until the last minute to study this material.  It will end up being too much if you don't space the studying out now...And, you will be adding information next week!

All classes...continue to study Chapter 4 in your textbook.  A test will be coming over that chapter, plus what is in your notebook, probably the week of September 26th.  We still have more material to work through, so that's my best estimate at this time. 

Periods 5, 6, and 7 - Oh how entertaining and informative you were over the past two days...So nice to see the creativity....Great job overall on your Country Catch All!!

For homework:

All classes are to read the piece called Problems and Proposals and then complete the processing piece...What To Do About The Water? This is due on Monday. Bullet the information in the appropriate boxes.  Get to the point in what you want to say.  Bullets always line up one underneath the other - short phrases, not complete sentences.

Periods 5-7:  You also have a "mini" project due on Wednesday called "Country Catch All". Be creative!!  You may use only the Cobb Virtual Library resources for this activity. Be sure to practice your presentation at home and come in prepared to WOW us!!

 

 

 

September 8th

Today, in class, we moved on to our next standard.  The first lesson was on "water resources" in the Middle East.  I gave you a reading piece that was the foundation of the lesson that I taught, some maps to be used as a reference, and then the processing piece for the assignment called a "graffiti" wall. 

Directions:  Trying to use graffiti type writing,using different colored pens, not colored pencils or markers..write all over the paper (your wall) with words or short phrases that you remember from the lesson. Have them be about what was important...use adjectives...nouns, etc! Load up that wall!!  Make it colorful!  Look back at the paper for reminders if you need to!

All classes are studying pages 130-132 in the online textbook.  Stop at the second column labeled Natural Resources.
