Today....We finished the "Greats".

Our poor characters in the story....even the poor "rich" boy...

For homework:  Complete your biopoems...one for Peter and one for Catherine.  I gave you two pieces of LOVELY paper for this assignment.  You may computer generate the poems from the rough draft.  Please use 1.5 spacing or double space...any color font, style etc.  If you do it by hand (and that is fine) please write in pen, not black ink, on copy or loose leaf paper...glue it in on the center section of your folded, LOVELY paper.  Please don't trim it down to the shape of the poem.  Nothing else goes inside.  On the outside...just a BIG letter P and C will work, but center it and then cut the letter down the middle so that one part is on one flap and the other part is on the other flap when it is opened.  Keep it simple and neat. The big letters need to be in color if you hand draw them or in color if you computer generate them .  Nothing as a finished product should be turned in in pencil.

Today we began by continuing with our novel study.  They are on the first boat!

We began our lessons on "The Greats" today...and oh... what a tangled web of names and happenings!

FOR HOMEWORK:  Nightly Reading Quiz coming tomorrow.  The pages for the reading are 313 - 315.  Look for the unusual or the new information.  Pay attention to everything on the page...and use "Inserts"....Please do not write in the book!

See you tomorrow!

FOR HOMEWORK:  TEST Tomorrow!!!!

Be sure that you have studied using the "Polonec" method.  Part I is ten multiple choice questions.  Part II - the fill in the blank part - (just a word or two) is very detail oriented.  This means that I will be able to tell how much time on task was spent. I will be looking for specific answers that come directly from the three handouts.

Until tomorrow.....

October 23, 2007

Study your two handouts...The last one is coming home tomorrow.  Test is Friday.

Finish your two t-shirt designs...color...all writing in pen...clever...excellent ideas to go along with the accomplishements of the two men.

For Homework:

You received a second handout from me today.  Read it through once and write the "Inserts" in the margin just like you did on the one from Friday.  After you have done that, study it my method.  The test will be on Friday and will not be a long one. There will be one more handout coming on Wednesday.

If you owe any work or were absent, please come tomorrow at 8:30 so that I can help you catch up!

October 19, 2007

For Homework:

Please be sure that you bring back the Explorer Test with a parent signature.  Last day to return is Monday.

Start working on the first handout for the Scientific Revolution.

  • Read it through once and as you do, mark with a pen using the INSERT pink sheet from the front of your Interactive Notebook (page VII).
  • Study, in 15-20 minute segments, both sides of the paper using "The Polonec Method".  Though there won't be a quiz or test on it on Monday...you should know it as though there was going to be one.
  • The test on the Scientific Revolution will probably be next Friday.  There will be more to come so take care of this reading this weekend.

End of a quarter - beginning of a new...

For Homework:   Explorer Test went home today.  Please be sure to have your parent sign it.  I'd like it back tomorrow, if possible; if not... definitely bring it back on Monday.  Please do not make a copy of the test.

Study the last group of spelling/vocabulary words.  Be ready for the assessments tomorrow.

Here is the next set of words: famine, cowering, mockery, agitated, indignation, scrutinize, and scoundrel.

Novel study begins on Monday.

I HOPE IT RAINS!!!!  A lot!!!!

Until tomorrow...

For tonight's homework:

Here are your next seven words for the novel study vocabulary.  There will be an assessment tomorrow on the spelling of the word and the definitions.

  • 7  distinguished
  • 8  alcove
  • 9  consultation
  • 10 woe
  • 11 proclaim
  • 12 prosperous
  • 13 deceitful

Write these in your notebook as we did yesterday.  You will need to spill over to the "B" side.

If you were absent today, come tomorrow morning at 8:15ish to take the assessment from the first set of words, and to take the notebook test.

See you tomorrow......

October 15, 2007

For Homework:

We are about to begin a novel study in our class (along with everything else that we are currently doing...This is a part of the Reading in the Content portion of the class period.)  The following is a preview for the vocabulary in this book.

Study the following six words in two different ways....

1.  devastated  2. misfortune  3. hostile  4. constable  5. congenial

6.  blighted

  • Know how to spell them for an assessment tomorrow...
  • Write the definitions for the words from the dictionary and be ready for some sort of assessment on the definitions, too, tomorrow...
  • Call someone from the class to see how to set these up in the Interactive Notebook if you were absent today.
  • A suggested strategy would be to cut up a file card, write the word on one side and the definition on the other.  If you look at the spelling word side, then give the definition.  If you look at the definition side, spell the word.
  • Ask an adult at home to give you a pretest on the spelling words before you begin studying to see what you know, or don't know.

Notebook assessment tomorrow...only you know if you are ready...

Feel free to come tomorrow at 8:30 if you were absent today so that you can glue in returned papers from today's class.

Until then....

October 12, 2007

No real homework tonight except to be sure that your notebooks are in order for the notebook check.....Coming on Tuesday....Pages should be numbered and all assignments glued in!!

Have a nice weekend!
