Important Information

Parents and students: Information regarding the swine flu from the CDC has been placed on our web site. We are encouraging students to wash their hands and to carry individual sized hand sanitizes in purses, etc. Our school always has soap, hot water and paper towels. In addition, most of us have hand sanitizes on our desks for student use. Please speak with your student at home about the importance of washing hands, covering mouths when sneezing, etc.

    American Heart Association

It's time for HOOPS 4 HEART and JUMP ROPE 4 HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those two activities will be held February 13th from 8-8:50 a.m. in the gym and covered play area. Any student in the school is welcome to participate (not just if they have PE). Also students can help raise money, and receive thank you gifts, even if they don't want to participate in the activity. All forms (for thank you gifts) and money is due to Mrs. Saunders on/before Feb. 13th 4:30 p.m.!!!! Please make all checks out to American Heart Association. In addition to those activities, we're adding in a 3 on 3 basketball tournament this year. It will be held Feb. 9-12 from 8-8:50 a.m.. There are forms available with info for anyone who wants to sign up. Again, it's open to every student in the school, any grade, male/female (and they don't have to be in PE). These students can get packets and participate in fundraising for AHA, even if they don't want to participate on Feb. 13th. Sign-ups and money for this tournament are due on/before Feb. 4th by 2:30 p.m. to Mrs. Saunders.

    Grades

2nd Quarter report cards will be in your student's conference folders. There will also be a 'status' sheet of how your student got the grade they did for 2nd quarter PE (if they had it 2nd quarter). Additionally there will be progress reports for students who have PE this quarter (3rd quarter). There are only 3 grades on this report. There will be 3 more grades added by the end of conference week (we just had to print them ahead of time to get them in the folder). Please check I-Parent in February to really get an idea of your student's mid-quarter progress. Please keep in mind our policy in PE on making up points for being absent or for dress cuts. Those can be found in our syllabus (there is a link to it on the left). Have a great winter, stay warm, and drink plenty of fluids!

    Physical Education Homework Assignments

Beginning with the 2nd quarter, all homework assignments are in a separate "homework" category that is weighted as 20% of the grade.  Students will have one assignment per unit that is worth 5 pts.  The homework assignments are assessing their knowledge of a variety of things related to their particular unit including rules, strategies, and concepts.  It is very important that this work be completed and taken seriously as it will greatly effect a grade if not turned in.

    Scoliosis Screening

Scoliosis Screening will take place on Monday, Nov.17 and Tuesday, Nov. 18.  We will only screen the 6th and 8th grade students.  Parent letters were handed out to students on Monday Nov. 3.  If you did not receive the letter please contact us so we can get you the information.  The parent letter has a form at the bottom to decline screening.  If you do not want your child screened for Scoliosis, this form must be filled out with a parent signature and returned before the screening dates.  All students without a decline letter will be screened.  The students will see a short video explaining Scoliosis and the screening process the week before screening.   If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact Maureen McLaughlin.

It's that time of year again...

It's getting pretty chilly outside. Especially in the morning (7th grade)! We do watch the weather and don't go outside when it's too cold (according to Cobb Co. standards given for PE classes). So remind your students to bring something warm for PE to school. We want to get in as much outdoor class activity before the "real" cold comes! We will all have class inside then :)

Stay warm and remember to drink water! The cold weather really dries your system out.
