My Party

You have been working hard on your party project.  You have used MS Word to created a cover sheet and table of contents, Publisher for an invitation, PowerPoiont to describe your party, and Excel to create a database of friends' addressses.  If you have not finished any of these assignments, please be sure to come Friday morning at 8:15 to complete them.  Otherwise, I will see you Monday.  Have a great weekend!

Monday you will use Excel to enter the cost of your supplies.  You will learn to enter a formula for calculating the total expense.  Then, you will be ready to present your project to the class.  Can't wait to see to see your party.

Computer Literacy Test, Friday (5/8)

You have watched a video and completed several worksheets on how a computer works.  I have reviewed the answers for all worksheets with you.  You have done a great job on your computer design.  Friday will be the computer literacy test.  Please take your folder home on Thursday to study for the test.  If we have field day on Friday, the test will be next Tuesday.

Your next unit will be one called "My Party."  You will use MS Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint programs to create your very own party.  Students love this unit and I am sure you will, too.

Important Information

Parents and students:  Information regarding the swine flu from the CDC has been placed on our web site.  We are encouraging students to wash their hands and to carry individual sized hand sanitizes in purses, etc.   Our school always has soap, hot water and paper towels.  In addition, most of us have hand sanitizes on our desks for student use.  Please speak with your student at home about the importance of washing hands, covering mouths when sneezing, etc.

NO MAKEUP DAY FRIDAY, MAY 1

Although my makeup days are Tuesday and Friday, there will not be one this Friday, May 1st.  I will be out and Ms. Lane will be the substitute teacher.  Of course, I expect you to be on your best behavior.  Remember my rule--if she puts your name down for misbehaving, it will be a detention.  There will be no discussion about it.  I'm sure everything will be fine because you are the best of Dickerston.  I will miss you.  Have a great weekend!

Additional Makeup Day

Because students have asked for an additional makeup day, I will be in both Thursday and Friday, 3/12-13, at 8:15.  This is your opportunity to complete any missed work.  Check i-parent for missing assignments.

Banking Unit

You have learned to write checks, make deposits, and how to record both in your check register.  Wednesday you took a test.  You will learn about the services a bank offers, the types of endorsements, and learn to reconcile your account.  You will also use Excel to create a check register and create a formula to calculate your balance.  Afterwards, you will have a unit test.  You may take your folder home at that time to study.

Please continue to check i-Parent and my blog for updates.

Friday (2/27) is last day to makeup work

You are finished with the report and letter units.  If you have any missing letters, you will have to make them up by this Friday, February 27.  Tuesday and Friday are my makeup days.  Very few students came in on Tuesday.  This Friday will be the last day work from the letter unit will be accepted.

Our next unit is called "My Business."  You will become entrepreneurs.  You will establish a product or service, advertise, hire and calculate payroll for employees, create a PowerPoint presentation for your product, and attend a job fair.

Please continue to check I-Parent and my blog for updates.  If you have any questions, please see me.

Computer Literacy Test on Friday, Feb. 27th.

Posted in Sixth Grade | Permalink

What's the plan?

Although you are finished with the keyboarding unit, you will continue to take two-minute timed writings.  You have finished the computer literacy unit, used computer graphics to design your computer, learned the elements of the Word Processing document window, and now you are ready for the test.  Because Word Processing is the most used software, you will learn to key a one-page report.  This skill is at the request of your sixth grade teachers.

The computer literacy unit is finished.  You took your material home on Wednesday.  Don't forget to study for the test on Friday, February 27.

Our next unit is creating a party.  In this unit you will use word processing, Excel spreadsheet, Publisher, Power Point, and graphics.  Most students love the project.  I hope you enjoy it also.

Friday, 2/13, is last day for making up assignments

Progress reports go out next Tuesday, 2/17.  All assignments should to be completed by this Friday, February 13.  I will be at school by 8:15 a.m.   You have had several days to make up your work, but few have taken advantage of the makup days.  Don't miss this last opportunity.
