Week of September 24th-28th

Monday - Students will begin class interpreting a map to practice map skills. We will move on to completing a graphic organizer for each of the three religions fromthe Middle East. Hw- continue to study the physical map of the Middle East and complete the next two pages of the chapter 15 study guide. Parents please review the student agenda with your child, so they will keep up with their homework. Thank you.

Tuesday - Reviewed 1st four pages of the study guide and continued completing the religion graphic organizers  - HW complete the remaining pages of the study guide

Wednesday - checked the work on the study guide. Read/highlighted and discussed "In the Footsteps of a Prophet" examined pictures of the kaaba in Mecca. Read and highlighted "The Hajj and the Western Wall" then examined pictures of the Western Wall in Jerusalem. Read articles describing the "Five Pillars of IslaM" HW will be to complete the illustration with the descriptions of each of the five pillars.

Thursday - Review the completed study guide. Review vocabulary from Ch. 15. Finish the illustration Card of the "Five Pillars of Islam"

Friday - Viewed two video's (first one done on closed circuit, started too early)our class missed some of it. Videos were entitled "The Arab World" and The land of Contrasts."

Week of September 17th -21st

Monday - Constitution Day - we will examine what our country's constitution means to each of us and the priviledge and responsibility we each have as US citizens.

Tuesday - Looking for cultural elements - Students will view slides from various places of the Middle East and identify, discuss and record cultural elements from each.

Wednesday - Read article called "At Home in the Rub- Al Khali" - contrast the before/and after the discovery of oil in the region for transportation, housing, job, and lifestyle. Hw learn the Deserts and peninsulas of the Middle East.

Thursday - Mrs. Rosado visits the classroom, introduces the procedures for using the counseling suite and the "how to" if student feels he/she needs to be seen. HW learn the locations on the physical map

Friday - Read text pp. 435-439. Complete "Glossary:After you Read."

Week of September 10th - 14th

Hope you spent a nice weekend with your families, but I also hope you studied for your map test.

Monday - collect overdue book cards (these are graded as a quiz grade)  Read article "City-State and Civilizations" - begin power point presentation. HW - prepare for Wednesday's test.

Tuesday - Discussed and took notes on the the article we read Monday. Glued in paperwork to the interactive notebook, and practiced the political map. HW Study, study, study!

Wednesday - Political map test - begin the physical map of North Africa and Southwest Asia.

Thursday Mark off the Jr Scholastic envelop and have students place in black box. Work on the interactive bulletin board and read about the Rub-Al-Kahli Desert of Saudi Arabia.    Reminder : School pictures are scheduled for Tuesday, September 18th. Payment is made directly to the photographer in the picture selection envelope.

Friday - Once again we have to be flexible..... plans changed for today and we  will work on the interactive board all class period,therefore, the Rub-al-Kahli will be next week.

Week of September 4th - 7th

Good Day, I hope everyone had an eventful Labor Day Holiday. Welcome back.

Tuesday - Reading card was due Friday, only one student had it. Will collect the remainder of those cards today. Reminder, those reading cards will be a quiz grade, so students need to turn them in. We will continue with our practice of the countries from the Middle East and North Africa. Parents please have students practicing these every night, our test will be soooooon! We will also work on reading pages 423-427 in text and in class work on the comprehension exercies.wrrite the definitions for all vocabulary words for sections: 1-4.

Wednesday - Review vocabulary - Wrote notes on sections 1, 2, & 3 from pages 423 - 427. Worked with interactive bulletin board reviewing countries of the Middle East.

Thursday - Reviewed countries - completed notes on sections 1-3 - added the following cities to the list to know for the political map: Cairo, Tehran, Baghdad, Jerusalem, Beirut, Riyadh - Parents, please help remind your child to bring their reading cards Friday (they will be counted as a quiz grade this year).

Friday - Collect remainder of the summer reading cards. Read section 4, takes notes review countries, and the notes taken on sections 1-3.  Announced political map test on Wednesday. Study, study, study.
