Week of August 27th-31st.

Hope your weekend was good.

Monday - reviewed landforms for the test Tuesday, hw, study, study study! We covered our notebooks and we began working on the political map of North Africa and the Middle East.

Tuesday - We will be tested today on the 15 geography terms. Continue working with the political map. HW learn the countries of N. Africa.

Wednesday - Reminder Summer Reading Cards due by Friday!!!! We will review N.Africa countries. We will see a slide show on Middle East. Students will begin to read Chapter 15 in text and complete the worksheets provided. HW - learn the rest of the countries in M.E

Thursday - Began Chapter 15 in the text with discussion and Q & A.

Friday - Continue reading Chapter 15 with worksheets

Week of August 20th - 24th

Hope you had a great weekend!  This week in social studies we will........

Monday - review the world map for Tuesday's test. Then, we will continue working with our landforms... identification from description and collecting an example for each.

Tuesday - we took a world map quiz today. Then we added examples for each landform.  a mini research was assigned as hw tonight. Each student was given one geographic term to research and illustrate. HW will also include studying the first seven words and definitions from the geographic list.

Wednesday - Students will present their research card. We will set up our interactive notebooks. Finally we will reveiw the first seven words of our geographic terms. HW will be to study and know the remaining words on this list. Quiz Friday!

Thursday - Our landform research card was presented (not everyone had theirs). Parents please encourage your child to keep up with the homework. We reviewed seven of the 15 vocab. words which will be on a quiz scheduled for Friday. Hw - please study and complete a crossword puzzle for practice. The last activity was  setting up interactive notebooks, students have been encouraged to get the front of their notebooks personalized.

Friday -  Review crossword puzzle and view the last thee presentation. The quiz scheduled for today will be postponed until Tuesday. Students need to continue to study

August 13th - 17th

Welcome back!

Monday - today was a great day.....First, we completed a contact form to ensure communication between home and school. HW - students who did not finish completing the contact form and required the assistance from parent(s) need to have it finished as HW.  We participated in a "getting to know you bingo activity," and students were instructed on daily procedures.

Tuesday - Students will participate in a geography "pretest," books will be issued and a scavenger hunt will be completed. If student does not complete the scavenger hunt he/she will complete it as homework. Class syllabus will be issued an reviewed, parent signature will be required.

Wednesday - We will continue with the agenda planned for Tuesday. The test took longer than anticipated. Today we will receive the textbook (they must get covered). Then we will review the class syllabus and the HW assigned will be to have parent sign. We will orally review map skills and then begin a memory map activity.

Thursday - We will begin class with a map activity, students will label all continents, bodies of water, hemispheres, equator, tropic of Cancer and Capricorn, artic circle and draw a compass rose, all w/o support. Then they will be given the opportunity to examine their maps with an correctly labelled map to locate  and correct mistakes. Homework will be to re-label and color a map correctly and neatly (for a grade).

Today we finished our week reviewing our continent, bodies of water and map skill. I announced a quiz for Tuesday, August 21, 2007. The student will need to be able to label his/her map with continents, bodies of water, all four hemispheres, equator, Tropic of Capricorn & Cancer, the Artic Circle and Antartica Circle.
