Week of May 14th-18th

Monday - Read an article from Inspired about the Great Rift Valley in East Africa. Discussed and answered comprehension questions. Began a Jr. Scholastic magazine:Booming Times in China and followed that with a play entitled The Great Migration, if time allows. HW label and color of the countries of Central Africa. Study, Study, Study them!

Week of May 7th-11th

Monday - Africans didn't record their history for many years.....they relied on "griots" or "praise singers" to share the tribe's history.Classwork will be to begin an illustration from one of the five short stories read during class. HW will be to complete a map of countries on the West Aftican coast and complete a crossword of Central and South Africa.

Tuesday - worked on illustrations from the one short story of student choice.

Wednesday - Presented illustrations. Quizzed on part of the map of West Africa.

Thursday - Read The Story of the Lost Boys. Quizzed on the remaining countries of West Africa.

Friday - viewed videa of The Lost Boys.

Week of April 30th - May 4th

Monday - In class we will begin an activity - timeline that puts African history in chronological order.

Tuesday - We will complete the timeline from Monday's work and read an article entitled Lost Childhoods," which depicts the plight of millions of African children,working." Hw - complete the questions on page 13 of the Jr. Scholastic and label six more countries from the Africa political map. There will be a quiz on Wednesday that includes the six new countries and the five previously learned.

Wednesday - Review Jr. Scholastic HW, Review timeline events in order, quiz on maps; and read article on the Sahara. If time allows we will begin an activity on "Farmland to Desert."

Thursday - We'll pick up where we left off Wednesday. I will return your map and map quizzes. We will read and discuss how farmland can become desert, and if time allows we wll read about the longest river in the world.

Friday - Today we will be viewing a video entitled Africa: The Slave Trade. You will also be given the last crossword puzzle to complete as homework. Remember to study it so you know the meaning of each word. You will have a quiz on all the vocabulary next week!
