Monday - Mrs. Rosado took the social studies class today.

Tuesday - Glued in test to notebook - reviewed some of the facts from lesson 18.2. Read Lesson 18.3. HW - use the study guide to prepare for quiz on lesson 18.2, wkbk page 63

Wednesday- Quiz on Lesson 18.2 - Discuss hw p. 63 of workbook - notes on ethnic groups of Nigeria.

Week of December 10th - 15th

Today in class we will review section 2 of chapter 17 with the guided reading book. We will listen to lesson 3 with audio CD and then work on our camel poster. HW will include activity w/s p. 122 and p. 7 of the map and graph skill In-depth resource book.

Tuesday - The class worked on their "trade route" posters

Wednesday - listened to the audio of Chapter 17, L3 and discussed- took notes for completing wb p. 60. - reviewed Monday's HW - assigned HW 17.3, p. 124

Friday - In class - InspirEd complete "The Great Rift Valley , Read about Dr. Livingston, and explore the Slave Trade. HW label and color physical features of East & South Africa

Week of December 3rd - December 7th

M onday - made graphic organizer of nonrenewable/renewable resources; collected lesson vocabulary; read lesson 2 of chapter 17, discussed and assigned page 59 in workbook as homework. In-class activity was collaborative learning activity on vocabulary from lesson 1. Also homework needs to include studying map locations and vocabulary from lesson 1 and lesson 2.

Tuesday - Reviewed W.African map locations; reviewed and discussed homework page 59 of workbook. Distributed a map of Central Africa to label and color physical locations. HW Study and know vocabulary of l 1 and L2, chapter 17 and know renewable and nonrenewable resources.

Wednesday - Quick quiz on learned materials from Monday and Tuesday Reviewed locations from map of Central Africa - introduced the Camel Poster/Trading Empire for in-class work. HW know the locations from the Central African physical map.

Thursday - Reviewed the map locations for quiz on Friday and study vocab. for lesson 1 & 2, chapter 17 -worked on camel poster

Friday -quiz on west & central physical map features and vocab. from lesson 1 & 2 - review of lesson 17.2 - work on posters

Week of November 26th - 30th

Hope everyone had a great holiday feast!!

This week in social studies students will receive their progress reports. Parents please sign them and return them to me.

Monday - we began an new unit of study....Chapter 17, Lesson 1 (Africa). In- class we pre-viewed the lesson  by doing a group activity entitled P.L.A.N. HW- Study the notes we took on this first lesson. Reviewed map skills from pages  482- 493.

Tuesday- Warm- up, reviewed landforms of the African continent.Completed a reading strategy entitled "What did I read" while reading and discussing pages 496-501. HW - Review & Learn what we read! In class we began (2nd time) a vocabulary activity.

Wednesday - In- class "After Reading" activity, Organizing and summarizing. Hand-out West African physical map - label and learn.  In-class continue work with vocabulary blocks. HW - Study vocabulary from this section and what we have read.

Thursday/Friday - We will begin class with a pop quiz of the vocabulary learned in section 1 and questions regarding the climate regions of Africa.  Review the physical map locations from the West African map.  In-Class activities through Friday will include:  Farmland to Desert;" The longest river;" The Great Rift Valley;" "Kenya See;" and the Immense Island. HW and independent work will include continuation of the vocabulary blocks.

Tuesday -  Review study guide lessons 4 & 5 - Review Bingo Game

Wednesday - Test on Chapter 16

Thursday - Completed bar graph from our research  - read & highlighted Africa Geography Background Information. - Hand back test - Begin  vocabulary squares of Chapter  17.

Friday - Sub plans....Show video "Phiysical Geography of the continent of Africa. Discuss - continue work on vocabulary squares.

Week of November 7th - 9th

Monday/Tuesday student vacation days!!!!

Wednesday - Read aloud and discussed Chapter 16; L5.

Thursday/Friday - Reteaching activity which includes: Idnetifying Problem p. 30

Making Inferences p. 29

An Egyptian story p. 37-40

Reading Study Guides, sections 4 & 5 pages 144-47 (didn't get to...will do Monday).

Homework due Monday, project and use the study guide to prepare for Wednesday, November 14th test.

Week of October 29th-November 2nd

Monday - Reviewed Hw from not yet gone over (wkbk pages 55 & 163. Hand out study guide for chapter 16, L 1-3. Listen to section 4, ch. 16 pp. 470-773. HW Learn pp 1-6 of study guide and complete teacher generted questions. Please note:::Had to change plans.....students didn't do homework, therefore, they had to complete homwork during class time.

Tuesday - Students will go to the computer lab to finish their research. Homework study, study, study for your test tomorrow!

Wednesday - Review questions from lesson three. Test chapter 16, lesson 1-3

Week of October 22nd-26th

Message "Picture retakes on October 23rd."

Monday - We will continue our research today, however you will have homework to complete, activity 16.1 and 16.2 worksheets, to review and reinforce what we have read in those two sections from chapter 16.

Tuesday - Continued work in the computer lab on research project.

Wednesday - checked homework and reveiwed ch. 16, L 1 & 2.

Thursday - completed a pre-reading activity before beginning to read Ch. 16, L3. Homework is complete workbook page 55, timeline guided reading.

Friday - Review Homework; do physical map test of M.E., Review HW p. 19 (In-Depth); in class p. 22-23; p. 28 making inferences (In-depth review). Study for the quiz on sections, 1-3, chapter 16. also complete worksheet making inferences, ch. 16 p. 28
