Earth, Moon, and Sun
Warm-up:
- Test Ready - Testing Tips for the CRCT
- Lesson 1 - Cross out any answers you know are wrong. You will have fewer answers to think about. Complete 1-12 and self-check, keep in Journal section of SCI NB.
Class work:
- Discussion of the Earth, Moon, and Sun System
- Comparison on Ancient Models of the World to our present day model
- Students will invent their own "ancient models" of the world. Students will write stories explaining common events seen daily in the sky, such as the Sun rising in the east and setting in the west.
- Do some prewriting and brainstorming today. Write your story in class tomorrow along with an illustration. Imagine that you are living several thousand years ago, on the site where you live now. Invent a model of the world to explain how the Sun gets from the western part of the sky back to the east during the night. The model can be a flat Earth or any other shape that might explain the observations. The model can also be designed to explain observations of the Moon and stars.
Homework: Prewrite and brainstorm ideas.
Test Wednesday, April 2, 2008 on last weeks activities. Review tomorrow.
