Convection Currents and the Mantle

Warm-up:

  • Create a concept map for "Heat Transfer", include the 3 types of heat transfer (radiation, conduction, convection), include two details for each.  Add to your Journal section of your SCI NB.
  • Complete graphic organizers for section 1 & 2, add to your CW section of your SCI NB.

Class work:

  • Complete "Measurement of Temperature" activity WS and keep in CW section of your SCI NB
  • Heat Transfer demonstrations: complete WS packet and add to your CW section of your SCI NB
  • Scaling the layers of the Earth - hallway display

Minerals Test - Sections 1 & 2

Make-up date:  Thursdays @ 8:00 am

  • Minerals Test  (Scantron, pencil, NB paper)

Reminders:

  • Students need their textbook everyday in class
  • Textbooks need to be covered
  • Students need a 1" binder with 5 index tab dividers (gen info, journal, cw, hw, grades)
  • Homework grades (100) are given at the beginning of the 9 week grading period,  each time a homework practice ws is missing, lacks a name, or is incomplete, 5 points is deducted from this grade
  • Attending a help-session could add 5 points back to the HW grade.

Density

Warm-up:

  • Handout - Finding Density, complete practice on back and add to CW section of SCI NB

Class work:

  • Density Rainbow - find the density of five liquids, color in the graduated cylinder by the densities of the liquids.  Most dense to least dense.  Answer the questions and complete the practice on the back.  Add to CW section of SCI NB.

Homework:  Practice WS "Density Drill"

Early Release Day tomorrow, 9/19.  Students will be dismissed at 2:15 pm.

Minerals test on Thursday, September 20th.
