Media Center - Computer Lab

Warm-up:  Reviewed "Using the Internet", last night's homework and it was collected.  Those who were unable to complete the assignment should complete over the holiday or make plans to come in early Tuesday, around 8:15 am to use my classroom computers.

Class work:

  • Internet Scavenger Hunt - Practice worksheet which uses the school and county reference resources.  When completed, add to CW section of SCI NB.

Homework:  NONE  :)

Media Center - Computer Lab: Evaluating Web Sites

Today, we went to the computer lab and evaluated websites about minerals. 

Essential Question:

  • Why is it important to know how to find and use reliable information on the Internet?

Using the "Rocks and Minerals Web Evaluation" link found in Ms. Moore's webpage from the Dickerson school website, students were guided through two evaluations and asked to complete a third using the worksheet provided.

Homework:  Evaluate one other website from the link (not the 3 completed in class: Mama's Minerals, Rocks and Minerals, or Enchanted Learning).  Answer the questions on the worksheet provided "Using the Internet".

  • self-check and add to HW section of SCI NB
  • Read pages 10-13, add vocabulary to vocab strategy list

Class work:

  • Register for online itext, see handout for directions and keep in "General Info" section of SCI NB
  • Preview Classtrac, an independent study site
  • Preview lessons on Mineral topics

  • discussed how Homework grade was created and how to keep it at 100%, placed WS in HW section of our SCI NB
  • returned other graded papers that were posted on i-parent and placed in our "Graded" section of our SCI NB

  • Reading in the Content area form given to students and needs to be signed

Warm-up:

  • New Seating Chart
  • Place HW (Prac. WS(29-30) Measuring) in the HW basket

  • Notes (Area/Volume), reviewed notes from "Measurement" and "Length"
  • Measuring Volume activity, place in CW section of SCI NB, made a  1 cm cubed box, think how would you make a 1 L box just like our model.

Organizing Our Notebooks!  Get forms signed.

1st Period had an assembly with the administrators in the theater today.

2nd - 4th Period:

  • Organized notebooks
  • Placed completed assignments from last week into the correct section of our notebook
  • Filled in the TOC (Table Of Contents) page for our Class Work section of our notebook
  • Labeled all index tab dividers (5), see "Notebook Organizer" in front of Science Notebook
  • Completed "Recognizing Lab Safety" WS, Lab Safety Quiz tomorrow

Homework:  Get forms signed, all students should have the necessary materials for this class (1" 3-ring binder w/5 index tab dividers, notebook paper, pen/pencils, highlighter, 3-2 pocket folders w/brads
