Our seventh grade students have just finished eight days of testing. Both the Iowa
Test of Basic Skills (an achievement test) and the Cognitive Abilities Test (a mental abilities test) are nationally normed tests. That means that your child’s progress can be compared to other students in the United Stateswho are the same age. A score listed as a national percentile of 50 would be considered average. These results will probably be distributed during winter conference time in January.
Our “newest” 7th grade students seem to be adjusting well. The PTSA sponsored a wonderful Newcomers Breakfast for students and parents on Sept 30. A special thanks to Suzi Goodman and her volunteers for organizing this special event.
I plan to start the training for my helping groups of New Crew and Notebook Busters. The groups training will be held during the academic day. All 7th grade students had an opportunity to volunteer for these peer helping groups during my recent classroom visit. New Crew Helpers will assist in the transition of new students just moving into the Dickerson school district. Notebook Buster Helpers will aid fellow students in organizational skills. The actual program will begin after first quarter.
