After grading the Parts of Speech test we took on Friday, I feel that most of you have a good foundation in this area of grammar.  However, for the few of you who made below 80%, I am requiring a review packet to be completed and studied.  I will test you on this packet on Monday, September 17.

Our emphasis this week will be on the elements of a short story.  In addition, we will learn the concepts of theme, conflict (both external and internal), and plot.  Please bring your literature book to class daily.

Welcome to a short but busy week.  We will have our first test of the school year on Friday, and I would like for you to begin to review nightly for this assessment on the parts of our speech.  Especially important for you to study is the Review handout I checked with you on Friday.  I will expect you to know definitions, examples, and application of the information on this handout.

Today, (Tuesday), after an introduction to using the writing lab and completing "On the Occasion of My Fourteenth Day at Dickerson," we will focus on action and being verbs. (Homework: worksheet)

We will discuss and differentiate between adjectives and adverbs on Wednesday.  (Homework: worksheet) On  Thursday, we will "pull it all together " as we review for our test.

Please bring to class your literature book daily until otherwise notified.  We will integrate the study of grammar and literature all week.  Remember to have your workbook with you everyday.
