Check Pinnacle. Make sure your grade is accurate. If you've been absent, make an appointment to come in and take any missing tests or quizzes. End of the marking period quickly approaches!

AC--In class time to write rough draft of expository essay.

LA--Shared political cartoons.  Dissected 2007 Released prompt.  Practice brainstorming ideas: created a T chart for persuasive prompt.

Tuesday, December 13th

AC- We listened to an NPR podcasts on the rise of demand and call for iPads and other tablets. We also examined a persuasive body paragraph and expository body paragraph from the mock test prompt and practiced idea e x p a n s i o n in our journals.  The last 10 minutes of class we played a couple of rounds of "ultimate" around the world vocabulary review game.  Remember, your cumulative vocabulary test is on Friday.  Please study! 

8LA-We dissected the 2008 Georgia Writing Assessment prompts.  Students chose either the expository OR the persuasive and brainstormed an essay response with the OUTLINE format. 

Then we took the SAT 9 quiz on i Respond.  Scores posted in Pinnacle.

Mock Writing Test

As of Monday morning I have completed the grading for 1st, 2nd & 3rd period classes.  These classes have received their essays back.  This is a test grade.  Please remember that if you are unhappy with your grade, or just want to improve your writing, students have the ability to revise and edit essay and turn in for a new score.  This has been my policy all year long and continues to be my philosophy for writing.  Since 1st and 2nd periods received their essays back last week, all revisions are due by Friday, December 16th.  If you are in 3rd period, your revisions are due on Monday, December 19th. 

If you take advantage of this opportunity, please remember to staple or paper clip the following items together and turn into the correct period tray:

Happy 12-12! 

AC-We convened into Literature Circle #4.  Roles were due today.  Finish books by Monday.  Complete last roles & plan your ideas for your in class essay. 

3rd period analyzed mock writing test data & shared observations. 

LA:  Remember, we have SAT 9 vocabulary quiz tomorrow.  Please study! We dissected the released prompts from 2010.  Students chose to brainstorm on either the persuasive or expository.  See below:

Expository:  Write a letter to your teacher explaining your solution for cleaning the school.  Provide specific details so that your teacher will understand what your class will do. 

Persuasive:  Write a letter to your teacher in which you convince the teacher that students should or should not be required to clean your school.  Defend your position with specific reasons and detailed examples. 

AC Literature Circles

Each Monday students have a new role to play in their literature circle groups.  We've had 3 circles thus far and hence each student should have grades on 3 out of the 5 roles so far.  Our last two lit circles are the last 2 Mondays this marking period!  Peace!  Mrs. Johnson

Wednesday-Mock Writing Test.  Bring two sharpened pencils and two blue/black ink pens to your homeroom class.  Fare thee well!  Remember to SPAFT.  Brainstorm.  Outline.  Draft.  Edit & Revise.  Neatly ink a final copy.
