Walton's Writers' Night

The Fourth Annual Walton Writers’ Night is set for Wednesday, March 9 at 6 p.m.  Please make plans to come to this event to honor our aspiring writers.  The featured guest writer is Kathleen Ann Goonan, an award-winning science fiction writer.

 Goonan has published six critically acclaimed novels, over thirty short stories, and many travel articles.  Her first novel, Queen City Jazz, was a New York Times Notable Book. Her last novel, In War Times, won the Campbell Award for the Best Science Fiction Novel of 2007; it was also the ALA's Best Genre Novel of the Year. Her acclaimed Nanotech Quartet—Queen City Jazz, Mississippi Blues, Crescent City Rhapsody and Light Music— also includes award winners.  Her latest novel, This Shared Dream, will be out in 2011.

Goonan presently teaches writing and literature at Georgia Tech.  She is working on numerous short stories and her ninth novel.  Her web page is www.goonan.com.

We read & discussed Sojourner Truth's speech, "Ain't I a Woman?!"

Assignment option: Write a letter or email to Mr. Sweeney, our Cobb County School Board member, expressing your opinion on last night's vote. 

Option two:  Analyze the "Ain't I a Woman" speech for persuasive appeals & poetic/literary devices.

Don't wait until the last minute to complete your mini research project!  If you are creating a t-shirt, do it this weekend!  That will give you some margin in case of difficulty. 

If you are creating an interview, remember to TYPE your 12 question script.  You need TWO copies...one for me and one for you! 

Feel free to turn in your Works Cited Page early!
