Important Info for the End of the Year!

Important Reminders--

--Students are NOT allowed to ride a bus other than their assigned bus the last 8 days of school.  No bus notes will be signed on these days.

--No iPods, cameras, etc. should be brought to school.

--On the last day of schools, students should not bring anything with them on the bus.  If they bring their lunch from home, it should be in disposable bag.

--If students are checking out early towards the end of the year, they must still be signed out earlier.

--Early Release Days Scheduled
Please note the early release schedule for May 24 & 25, 2011:
  • High Schools: ALL Students released at 11:30 a.m.
     (no regular dismissal at 3:30 p.m.)
  • Middle Schools: Students released at 12:30 p.m.
  • Elementary Schools: Students released at 1:30 p.m.

May 16 to May 20

Reading:  All classes have finished the novel study, and the test scores are posted on Pinnacle.  This week students will continue reading and writing about Chicken Soup for the Teen-Age Soul.  This writing activity will be assigned, explained and completed in class, and it will count as a project grade.  Finally, at the end of the week, students will view the original movie version of Cheaper by the Dozen; it is very good and very different from the version most starring Steve Martin.  We will not have a final test in this class.

Language Arts: Students will have an assignment based on their Titanic readings.  This will be a  mind map which will revolve around what you would have observed on the last night of the voyage.  We will not have a final exam in language arts.

May 10

Language Arts will have a quiz on the Titanic vocabulary on Friday, May 13.   You will only have to study the ones you missed, however, the quiz will not be exactly  like the pre-test, so you should look over all the words.  The quiz will have fill in the blank sentences, with a word bank. Three students made a perfect score on the pre, Bianca, John and Allen, so they will not take the quiz Friday.

May 9 to 13

 
Reading:  We have enjoyed reading Cheaper by the Dozen, and will have the final test on the book this week.  3rd, 4th and 5th have the test on Tuesday, May 10.  6th period has the test Thursday, May 12.

After finishing the book, we will read the book Chicken Soup for the Teen-Age Soul III and have some activities to go with it.  The activity sheets will be handed out in class.

Language Arts:  All of the students have turned in their response to literature essay about a favorite song of poem.  I am grading those now and will hand them back next Monday. 

Next, we begin a unit on the Titanic which ends with a writing assignment.  On Monday, students will take a vocabulary pretest. For the rest of this week, students will read A Night to Remember, which is about the last night on the Titanic.  On Friday, May 13, students will take the vocabulary post test.  They are only responsible for the words they missed on the pretest. Students will know by Tuesday which words to study.

May 2 to 6

 

Progress Reports will be sent home tomorrow.  Please sign and return.

In reading class we will finish Cheaper by the Dozen  next week.  Studentswill have a quiz over chapters 10 to 15 this week; some classes are further ahead than others, so the date of the quiz will vary. 

LA:  Students will finish the response to literature essay this week.  The writing will be done at school and is based on the song lyric or poem that they chose last week.
