We then began our unit on expository writing by reading pages 198-202 in the Writing and Grammar book. We discussed chronological order and space order. We also tried two methods to help generate a topic for a "how-to" expository essay. I will be looking for evidence of our study of sentence types in this essay!

The students worked with simple, compound and complex sentences today. Please review these types of sentences using your notes. We also discussed the New Year’s resolution paragraph and the ways that these goals can be meet. Students understand that their goals should be broken down into smaller units, and they understand that working toward the goal in smaller increments will help them achieve it. The students will compose a checklist or calendar to help them with this day-by-day goal.
HW: Students should have a rough draft of their checklist in class. Also, continue to study simple, compound and complex sentences.
