I am sorry that I forgot to post yesterday's work!
Tonight's homework: Study your notes on verb phrases, we will have an assessment on that tomorrow; it will be counted as a classwork grade. Continue to work on The Outsiders in class and please bring your Writing and Grammar text books to class tomorrow.
Today we finished our study of prepositions by writing poetry that included prepositional phrases. Students were given different assignments based on their work with prepositions thus far. Please refer to the assignment sheet you were given in class to complete the assignment.

Students also read in The Outsiders. Section 2 (chapter 1 to 4) work is due on Friday; please use your time in class wisely.
HW: Final copy of the poem(s) are due tomorrow. Please write you poem in ink on lined paper, or you may type it. You need a heading. Copy the same poem on the green leaf that I gave out it class, be sure to cut out the leaf at home and put your name on the back. This will be used as part of the bulletin board.
Today students completed a classwork assignment with adjective and adverb phrases. Students then read and completed work in their reading notebook. The "About the Author" section will be graded over the holiday.
HW: None! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
We continued with prepositional phrases today, focusing on adjective and adverb phrases. We did this by diagramming some simple sentences. Then the students did a five minute writing in their writing folders, and finally they read and worked in their reading notebooks.
HW: None; continue to review your preposition work.
Today we practiced with adjective and adverb phrases. We will continue with this next week. Some students also had the opportunity to read The Outsiders.
HW: None! Have a great weekend.
Thank you to all the students who had a spiral notebook in class today. We set up our reading notebooks, and students began to read The Outsiders. We also continued with prepositions, specifically compound prepositions, as well as prepositional phrases.
HW: Study the list of compound prepositions.
HW: Please have a spiral notebook tomorrow. Also, 5th period has 4 workbook pages about prepositions. Be sure to read the top of the pages before you try the exercises, this will help. Remember, a prepositional phrase includes the preposition and all the words after it ending with the object.
Ex: I will roast a large turkey for Thanksgiving dinner at my house over the holiday. The prepositions are for, at and over. The objects are dinner, house and holiday.
Today we discussed how words can be used as either a prepositions or an adverb in a sentence. Students worked on this in class and may have to finish for homework.
HW: Review prepositions vs. adverb work. Please have a spiral notebook for Thursday.
We finished our introduction to persuasive writing today by discussing the importance of the thesis statement and the counter-argument. Students practiced this in their writing today. We also began a review of prepositional phrases which we will continue tomorrow.
HW: If you did not turn in your Response to Literature essay today, it is due tomorrow. Remember you loose 10 points every day it is late, and I will not accept any late essays after Thursday. Please finish the preposition work and review prepositions and their objects.
