We worked on applying our knowledge of plot and tone to readings we did today; good job with that!

HW: I am sorry for any confusion regarding the packet due tomorrow.  The one and only packet that is due covers "HIPSOMA"; the first page of the four page packet deals with Hyperbole, page two Idioms, page three Personification and page four Simile and Metaphor.

Study the definition of SOAPS ( you don't have to know tone) for a quiz tomorrow.

Running Out of Time quiz Friday.

Today we looked for examples of HIPSOMA in the short story, "Seventh Grade" by Gary Soto, took a quiz on the parts of speech, and completed a writing activity.  I was impressed by how many students were able to complete the writing assignment in class; good job!

Today we continued our study of tone and how to unlock tone by looking at the way an author creates a story.  We examined the relationship between tone and diction, imagery, details, language and syntax (DIDLS). We further investigated Imagery by  discussing  hyperbole, idiom, personification, similes and metaphors (HIPSOMA).

I am looking forward to seeing parents tonight at open house!
