Is everybody happy? You had better be happy, and thankful that you now have time to rest, read, and enjoy your family. Speaking of reading, you need to bring in a signed reading log on Monday, 11/28/11. Yes, you are supposed to read on weekends, holidays, and every day you breathe.

Thanksgiving is one week from today. What are your plans for next week? Do you have a holiday in your country that is similar to the way we celebrate Thanksgiving? We celebrate the day with lots of family around us, watch football all day, and, wow, do we eat way too much food! Describe a holiday that you celebrate. (candy.)

It is a fabulous Friday and a very special one, too. Today is Veteran's Day in the U.S. A day to remember and honor all of the men and women who have served in our armed services. Thank you!
Today you took the post test for the unit "Discovering the Inca Ice Maiden." I am happy to say that everyone met or exceeded the standards tested.You will have a vocabulary quiz on the story words on Monday. You can review the words at home by checking back on a previous blog to see the word list.

Today is Thursday; do you know what that means? I want to see your signed reading log tomorrow!
Today you began a non-fictional narrative about a trip you took. You completed a cluster map to organize your ideas and then wrote a paragraph. If you did not finish in class, it IS homework. You also discussed infinitive phrases. 1.) Write one example of an infinitive phrase. 2.) What is the difference between a phrase and a clause? (Two answers equal ONE piece of candy.)

Today was interesting. 8th graders had an assembly in the Theater about Walton High School, and then they came back to my class as the 6th graders were arriving. There was a partner-reading with 6th and 8th grade partners. Cool!
Tomorrow 7th will finish their partner-reading, and all grades will review vocabulary and do WS 133-134. You will also begin a non-fictional narrative of your own.
8th graders only: How many electives can you have each semester at Walton?
7th and 6th graders only: From the story "Discovering the Ice Maiden," why was the author, Johan Reinhard, climbing Mt. Ampato when he discovered the Incan mummy?

Do not forget...NO SCHOOL ON TUESDAY! Enjoy your day. I just know you want to spend the whole day reading. Geno, try to find something in English to read and please ask your homeroom teacher to let you go to the media center on Wednesday morning. Young, ask your homeroom teacher if you can go to the media center to take an AR test.
Today in class you finished a guided reading, worked on -ed endings of verbs, and reviewed vocabulary with a Quiz Game. On Wednesday you will have a partner reading. No blog question... not even a trick one!
