Happy Halloween Everybody! It is just a little bit early but, as I told you, I won't be here on Monday. There will not be a blog on Monday night.
Remember that you CAN wear a costume to school on Monday as long as it follows the dress code. No short skirts. no masks, no face paint, and no props. Props are things like swords, if you are a pirate, or brooms if you are a witch.
Have a great weekend, and I will seeyou on Tuesday, Novemeber 1st. Has everybody taken the October AR test?

Guess what day it is? Yes, it is Thursday; time to have your reading log signed.
Tomorrow is the last day for the Book Fair. If you wish to purchase an item, bring your money tomorrow. You have still not had time to do a partner-read so tomorrow you WILL reread the rainforest story and work on the vocabulary words. Use the words subdue, subconscious, transplant, and elephant in one sentence. Use all four in the same sentence and you may add endings (-ing, -ed, -s etc) if you need.

We are half-way through Conference Week. Enjoy your early release today, tomorrow, and Friday. I hope all of your parents have enjoyed their conferences. (I have enjoyed them!) Tomorrow you will have a partner-reading of The Rainforest Hero, and a quiz on the story vocabulary on Friday. deforestation, threat, boundaries, union, coward, species, canopy, tapper, sap, acres. Use "subterranean" in a sentence. Use the picture as a hint for the sentence. If you misspell subterranean, I won't count it.

Today you went to the Bookfair to "eye-shop." (I love your description, Nodar.) If you saw somethng that you liked, bring money tomorrow and you can spend some more time at the Bookfair.
Tomorrow you will discuss the vocabulary words you received on Friday. Use the word "transform" in a complete sentence of at least 10 words.

Today you began a new story called “Rainforest Hero.” For last night’s blog activity, you had to write 3 facts about Chico Mendes. The reason for the facts is that Chico Mendes is the focus of this story. He was a hero to all rainforests around the world.
You began the study of these vocabulary words: deforestation, threat, boundaries, union, coward, species, canopy, tapper, sap, acres.
There will be no blog on Friday night, but I hope you have a great weekend! See you on Monday when conference week begins. I’m excited to meet with your parents!

Whenever you are absent, you MUST bring a note from your parents the day you return. If you have 3 unexcused absences, I must call your parents. If you have 5 unexcused absences, the office will send a letter to your parents. If you have 7 unexcused absences, a social worker will be sent to your home.
Today you discussed how to analyze facts in a news story. You will have another news article to analyze tomorrow; you will be graded on this.

The weekend is almost here! Bring your signed reading log tomorrow for your first grade of the new quarter
8th graders reworked a language arts test, silently read the story "Running for Their Lives" and then took a short quiz (homework grade) on recalling details from the story.
7th and 6th graders had a guided reading, did p.99, and reviewed the story vocabulary.
No blog question tonight. You should help me make some up. I'll take your suggestions tomorrow.

Today you viewed a short video about the ancient civilizations of Mexico: the Maya and the Aztec. You began working on your vocabulary for the next story which takes place in Mexico and involves Mayan ruins and, unfortunately, a group of thieves. Tomorrow you will complete the vocabulary chart and begin the story. How many current vocabulary words did I just use? What are they?
