Hello Everybody!

Today was a great day.  I really enjoy our class meetings. You reviewed vocabulary words today and wrote sentences using these words; tomorrow you will have a guided reading of "Volcano."

6th graders, remember to have your verb songs memorized. Check Dr. Williams' blog. 

8th graders, know your clause patterns (IC,ccIC  -  IC;te,IC  -  IC;IC) Check Ms. Attard's blog.

7th graders, keep on reading.  Pouya, this one is for you (everybody else, too!) What is the latitude and longitude of the galeras volcano?

Today you began another story from the mountains called "Volcano."  You completed a KWL chart on volcanes and began working on the story vocabulary words: eruption, predict, mercy, organization, victims, rim, crater, tourists, death toll, volcano.  What is a scientist who studies volcanoes called?

Progress reports were sent home home today.  They must be signed by your parents and returned to your home room teacher.

8th  graders!  I have two students who have not returned the Performing Arts permission.  You know who you are, and you know to bring it tomorrow.

 I will not be putting up a blog question until I have ALL of these forms returned to school.

Today you worked on vocabulary from the story "Death on Everest" and had a guided reading from that story.  Tomorrow you will do a partner-reading of that same story. Thursday you will have a quiz on the vocabulary.

 
Use ALL the words in sentences; you can use more than one word in a sentence.  You can find the words listed on yesterday's blog.  Sentences must have at least 8 words.

Hello Everybody!

 Today in class you discussed vocabulary and story details from "To Ski From the Tallest Mountain."  You saw a video clip about respiration at high elevations.  What is "respiration"? How is it different from sea level to the summit of Mt. Everest?

Rachel's Challenge is coming to Dickerson on September 13th. What is Rachel's Challenge?  Rachel Scott was the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. Her acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the contents of her six diaries have become the foundation for one of the most life-changing school programs in America. On September 13th, every student in Dickerson will attend a Rachel's challenge workshop where they will learn how they can start a "chain reaction" of kindness and compassion throughout Dickerson and East Cobb. And Parents.......there is a meeting for YOU!  This is a meeting you will NOT want to miss. Rachel's Challenge Parents Only Meeting September 13th -- 7pm - Dickerson Auditorium As a part of the training your student will receive during the school day, you will want to come and hear about Rachel's Challenge.  Rachel's family will be here to talk to parents about how we can make a difference in our family lives as well as in East Cobb.  These are topics you will want to discuss with your student so mark your calendars now for this very important meeting.    http://www.rachelschallenge.org/   Letter from DMS Health Instructors Fall, 2011   Dear Dickerson Parents, As part of the Health curriculum, a unit on HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT will be taught the last part of each nine week Health class.  Classes will be taught by Dickerson Health teachers.  All classes will normally be separated by gender and all materials have been approved by a committee of parents, educators, ministers and representatives of the health professions.  These materials will be available for review 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Media Center Workroom on Thursday, September 15th.  This is your invitation to join us on this day to view these materials and talk with a health teacher. Because we recognize the sensitivity of this area of instruction, we want to work with the home in providing information on these vital subjects.  If you wish your child to participate in this unit, we are asking that you sign the permission form given to your child during the quarter he or she takes HEALTH . Students not attending classes in Human Growth and Development will be given other health topics for study during that time.
