Hello Everybody!

Thank you all for checking my blog last night although, because I was not at school, there was nothing new.  I think I definitely should have a blog question tonight!  Here it is...

Write a single sentence using these vocabulary words:  blacksmith, wagon train, trading post, terrain, infection.  Use all five of them in the same sentence.  Good luck!

Hello Everybody! 

Today you took a quiz on "Lost in the Mountains."   Put the vocabulary words in the Dictionary section of your binder.

You had a great beginning to the third week of school today!  Unfortunately, I will be absent tomorrow.  I forgot to tell you, but I have an all-day in-service tomorrow.  You will notice that many teachers are out tomorrow; they are at the same meeting.  On Wednesday and Thursday you will notice more teachers are out of the building, as well; they also going to the same in-service.  Just continue to do and behave as you always do.  Please remember that IF a substitute teacher leaves me a uncomplimentary note about a student, I will be very unhappy.

Hello Everybody!

Thanks for being patient with me.  I forgot to publish a blog on both Open House nights.  (By the way, you have wonderful parents.)

I checked reading logs this morning, and there were quite a few missing parent signatures.  Bring your signed reading log on Monday for 80% credit

 Today you reviewed the story vocabulary for the quiz on Monday, answered p. 11 on the story review, and then read silently for the rest of the period.  Don't forget to read 90 minutes this weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday!)

Hello Everybody!

Dickerson had a great Open House for 6th grade last night.  I met many very nice parents!  Tomorrow is the 7th and 8th grade Open House and I expect to meet more very nice parents, then also.  Remember that Open Houses are only for adults so that we will not be so crowded as we move through the hallways.

Today in reading you discussed the story vocabulary words, and you will TEACH some of the vocabulary words tomorrow. (I love this!)  You read the short story "Lost in the Mountains." Because today you spent time looking at your online textbooks, 8th grade will finish the story tomorrow.

Hello Everybody!

Today we had an an emergency drill.  A gas leak was detected in the E Wing (Connection hall) and all students exited the building, We waited until the fire marshall gave us the OK to enter the building. Then classes resumed as usual.  I am so proud of the Dickerson students! They followed the drill procedures perfectly!

Today in reading class, you began a story called "Lost in the Mountains." You discussed the academic words drawing conclusions and the story vocabulary words: peaks, sources, summit, ascend, descend, survived, fork, landmark, civilization, blizzard.

Please remember the GPS standard you use DAILY:  Students understand and acquire vocabulary and use it correctly in reading and writing.

6th and 8th graders, don't forget to visit Dr. Williams's and Ms. Attard's blogs to find your assignments in language arts.

I have a Jolly Rancher for any ESOL student who can give me the two story vocabulary words that are synonyms, AND the two story vocabulary words that are antonyms.

A number of people have already received citations. The Fire Marshall will continue writing these citations throughout the county this school year. Please be reminded that if you park in a Fire Lane (a curb that is painted red) you risk being ticketed. Donations Needed for DMS   Dickerson Needs Your Old Tennis Balls!!! Do you play tennis? Do your students play tennis?   Dickerson needs 9,000 tennis balls as the school year begins!   Why so many?!? Every classroom has been updated with tiled floors over the summer and these tennis balls will be placed on the legs of each desk and chair to protect the floors from being scratched.   Look in your garage.... ask you tennis coach.... stop by your tennis academy.... we need these tennis balls now!   The DMS Environmental Club, "The Green Team", has set up bins in the front entrance way for the collection of these balls. Please feel free to drop off your tennis balls at any time during the next two weeks.   Thank you Dickerson Middle School 7th graders Alex Phelps, Laura Floyd, Jules McNeice and Abby Fortier for delivering used tennis balls generously donated by Atlanta Country Club, Universal Tennis Academy, Sweet Spot Tennis Academy,Terrell Mill Tennis Center and Olde Towne Athletic Club.   Join the DMS STUDENT Newspaper    What's the "Word On The Hall?"   The DMS Student Newspaper Team needs you!  We are currently seeking reporters, photographers, copy and layout editors for our quarterly paper.  We meet every Wednesday from 8:00-8:50 a.m. in the E-3 Computer Lab.  Our first meeting is August 24.
