5/4-12/09

Homework:  We will finish the play about Anne Frank tomorrow in class.  Continue working on your charts and have them completed by next Tuesday, May 12.  On Wednesday, we will make decorations for the dance during our class period.  Thursday, Friday, and Monday we will watch the 1958 black and white movie of Anne Frank.    The rest of the week we will complete a review project for the final exam which is scheduled for Thurday, May 21.  Be sure to have a package of 3x5 note cards.  You will need plenty of them! 

To stay healthy, be sure to wash your hands many times during the day including before lunch and after using the restroom.  We have plenty of hand sanitizer so please feel free to use it whenever you choose.  We all want to enjoy the last few weeks of 8th grade in a healthy manner.

4/30/09

Homework:  Work on your Anne Frank charts.  Tomorrow we will be listening to the play and continue with the charts.  Monday, turn in your paragraph (10-12 sentences) on what you learned from your WWII book.  Be sure to include the title of the book and the author's name.  The paragraph must be well written, or it will not be read!!

4/29/09

Homework:  Read yesterday's blog as much remains the same.  In addition, charts for Anne Frank were explained in class and each person is to maintain a chart for each character in the play.  Chart the story details, the physical appearance of characters and changes, and finally the emotional changes that occur in each person.  You will ultimately have 9 pages of charts.  This is due when we finish Anne Frank.

4/28/09

Homework:  SAT 5 vocabulary cards are due tomorrow.  Each card must have  the vocab word, definition, and picture illustrating the meaning of the word. 

Purchase a package of 3x5 cards for an end of year project to be completed in class.  You must have these cards by Monday, May 11.  We will begin working on the project Tuesday, May 12.

We will continue to listen to the play about Anne Frank tomorrow.  Be sure to have your literature book in class each day from now on.

4/23/09

Homework:  Book project due on May 4 or before.  Write a well developed paragraph of 10-12 sentences explaining what you learned about WWII from the book you read.  Be sure to include the title and author either in the paragraph or on the paper. 

SAT 5 vocabulary cards are due next Wednesday, April 29.  You must include the word, definition, and picture  on each card.

We will be listening to the play "Diary of Anne Frank" from now until May 5.  We will discuss as we go.  Bring your lit book to class each day.  Also, you will be given vocabulary words to define and know.  After we finish the play, we will watch the original movie on May 7, 8 and 11.  Test over the play will be on the final exam.

May 12-14 and 18 we will complete a review project for the final.  You will need your notebook with all notes given during the year.  Also bring a package of 3x5 notecards as you will need many of them!  Good luck!

Homework:  Do pages 93, 94 & 95 in your grammar workbook.  We will correct parts of all assignments given the last few days.  Be sure to study your CRCT notes and know subject verb agreement.  We will have a quiz over this on Monday.

3/26/09

Homework:  We will finish reading "The Pearl" in class by Monday.  We will continue to read during class tomorrow and complete the vocabulary.  Monday we will discuss the book.  Tuesday, we take the CRCT language arts practice test.  Study for this as it is a grade.  Remember, Thursday, we have "The Pearl" test.  Things are moving quickly!

3/23/09

Homework:  Today we went over the CRCT review test taken.  There will be a retake next week so be sure you understand what you missed the first time!  I will take the better of the two grades.  If you were absent today, you may come in before school and review the test any day.  Just let me know.  Have "The Pearl" read by Friday.  We will be working on vocabulary and discussing the book next week.  Test over the book and vocabulary will be on Thursday of next week. 

3/23/09

Homework: We spent  today in the lab researching pearls and John Steinbeck.  All students should have his/her copy of "The Pearl" for class on Monday.  Most work on the novel will be done at home.  The book is to be read by Friday, March 27.  We will discuss the book and its many themes the following week.  Test over the book and the vocabulary will be Thursday, April 2.  On April 3, Friday, we will go to the media center to select a book pertaining to WWII.  All students must be able to check out a book at that time.

We continue to review our grammar and sentence structure for the CRCT.  This is a busy time for all of us so please stay focused.  If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and make it up in the allotted time.  You are almost ready for high school!

Homework:  Do day 1 of warmup #16.  Do the first 10 sentences from the worksheet.  Be sure to mark each clause.  Also, read chapter 1 of "The Pearl" by Wednesday.
