This week we will finish reading The Outsiders. If we don't finish answering the questions in class, you should take the book home and answering the chapter questions for homework.

I changed plans for the remainder of The Outsiders. We'll finish reading and answering the questions for the rest of the book on Thursday, then watch some of the video after lunch. On Friday, we'll watch the rest of the movie. No school on Monday and Tuesday, review on Wednesday, then the test on the book will be on Thursday. You need to study your packet for this test: the characters, the vocabulary, and answers to the questions.

October 22-26, 2007

Monday and Tuesday , 10/22 and 10/23/07: Write compound sentences for each of the 28 vocabulary words from The Outsiders packet. The words are also listed on last week's blog.   There will be a vocabularly quiz on Thursday covering definitions and spelling. Bring your flashcards to class Tuesday - Thursday this week.

Wednesday: Study your vocabulary. Use your flashcards or the words on your packet. The vocab quiz tomorrow will cover spelling and definitions.

Thursday: No homework! There will be a test on the novel The Outsiders on Thursday, November 8. You should start going over the answers to the chapter questions in your packet.

This week we're reading The Outsiders, and will continue through next week. Vocabulary cards are to be created using the 28 vocab words in The Outsiders packet.  On the side of the card with the lines, copy the word, the definition, and write a sentence using the word. On the blank side, draw a small picture to help you remember the word.

The words are Greaser, Soc, rumble, mugged, lynx, bawl, reackless, vacant, nonchalant, incredulous, stocky, roguish, editorial, Paul Newman, rodeo, aloof, elite, boxcar, stammar, territory, premonition, contemptuous, bleak, panic, apprehensive, snooker, hermit, reformatory. Definitions are in the packet.

Monday: Vocab cards 1-10.    Study your cards - test on Friday, 10/26/07.

Tuesday: Vocab cards 11-20  Test on 10/26/07

Wednesday: Vocab cards 21-28 Test on 10/26/07

Thursday: Vocab test on 10/26/07

If we don't finish answering chapter questions in class, you should finish them for homework.

October 8 -12, 2007

Monday: We'll spend time working on the project that is due tomorrow. This is an interpretation of a short story that we read, and the activity is based on each student's particular talent.  Finish the project for homework, if needed, and complete the worksheet on sentences.

Tuesday: Worksheet re: sentences

Wednesday: We had our writing test today, and there's no homework tonight!

Thursday: Bring 3"x5" index cards by or on Monday. We're starting The Outsiders and the cards (blank on one side, ruled on the other) will be used for flash cards. Tonight, answer questions for chapter one.

Friday: Bring 3"x5" index cards on Monday.

October 1-5, 2007

This week we will analyze short stories, and we'll have a test on Friday. The test will be given in the same format as the classwork: we'll read a story, then we'll complete the "Plot Analysis" form.  Also this week, we'll start our timed writing personal narratives. We'll write these short stories from 1st person point of view, in other words, they'll be stories about us, from our own point of view. Each story will include a conflict, a problem, for the protagonist to reconcile. There will be a test on this timed writing next week.

Monday - Thursday: Complete the "Plot Analysis" form, which was started in class.
