Language Arts

Carlton: The class has completed their narrative writing.  Today we learned about infinitives and worked on DGP #6 - Monday and Tuesday.  We reviewed notes on adjectives and adverbs and their functions.

Vickery/Carlton: The class shared their scary stories with a partner, and we played vocabulary bingo to review for the SAT #4 quiz. 

HW:

  • SAT #4 quiz Friday, 11/2

Colvin/Carlton: The class viewed the SAT #4 vocabulary video and reviewed the words.  We continued to work on our persuasive essay.

HW:

  • SAT #4 vocabulary cards due next Thursday, 11/8

Carlton: The class  completed their narrative writing assignments today.

Vickery/Carlton: Students turned in SAT #4 notecards, and wrote a 12 sentence "scary" story.

Colvin/Carlton: Students continued to work on their persuasive papers today.

Reminder: The Relay for Life student/staff basketball game will be held this Friday, 11/2 at 8:00 a.m. in the gym.  Bring $1.00 to cheer for your team, and $1.00 to play.  See Mr. Foti if you wish to play.

Carlton:  The class continued to work on completing our narratives today.  Tomorrow is the deadline for all narratives to be done. 

Vickery/Carlton: We completed workbook pages which were assigned last week, reviewed sentence structure.  Student received their graded vocabulary tests. 

HW:

  • SAT #4 notecards due tomorrow
  • If a note was written on your vocabulary test, please have a parent sign it and return tomorrow

Colvin/Carlton: The class continued their persuasive writing.

8TH GRADE NEWS

Thanks to all the students who participated in today's hat day for Relay for Life.  There will be more hat days and other spirit days to come, so remember to help support the DMS Relay for Life team!

Student/staff basketball game next Friday, 11/2, 8:00 a.m. for Relay for Life.  Admission - $1.00; sign up to play for $1.00.

If you have not returned your report card and CRCT letter signature, please get these items signed and return them to your homeroom teacher on Monday.

Vickery/Carlton: The class checked our vocabulary and ten ways quizzes, and watched the SAT #4 video.  Students also completed the pre-test and post-test for unit 4 vocabulary.

Picture retake day tomorrow - bring a note and your picture package for retakes.  If you were absent and want to have your picture taken, bring your money and the envelope for the picture package you want to purchase.

Language Arts:

Carlton: The class continues to work on our narrative writing assignment.  The paper is due next Thursday, 10/25 and will be written in class.

Vickery/Carlton: We completed DGP week four, and discussed the plans for next week's pop quiz and vocabulary test.  The class discussed the  writing technique of parallel structure, and students practiced the strategy.

HW:

  • Vocabulary test next Tuesday, 10/23.  This test will cover all three SAT vocabulary units, and sentence structure patterns.
  • pop quiz next week on the "ten ways" sheet

Colvin/Carlton: The class discussed revision strategies; the MESS strategies.  The students will incorporate these strategies into the revision process as we write to prepare for the writing assessment in January.

Language Arts:

Carlton: Today the class continued with prewriting for our narrative, and began the introduction to the narrative. 

The narrative is an in-class writing assignment, so there is no homework this week unless a student is absent.  If there is an absence, the student must see me to pick their writing folder and continue to write at home.

Vickery/Carlton:

The class worked with the vocabulary #3 cards, checked the cards and did DGP week 3, Monday and Tuesday work.

Colvin/Carlton: The class completed week #5 warm up, and worked on vocabulary cards for SAT unit 3.

HW:

  • Write ten sentences using ten of the SAT #3 words.  Sentences must be SYNTACTICALLY MATURE!
