WE have begun the "city street" collage! All rough drafts should be finished by the end of class today. Once the drawing is approved, please start collected the colored paper you will need for the buildings. Please remember to use a ruler for making your buildings stand up straight.
On Tuesday we will begin Molas, the art of the Cuna Indians.
We have started a two point perspective drawing of a city street. These started out progressing slowly and are now moving at a quicker pace. I know it is a challenge to "see" things in perspective when you are trying to draw, but it is always so rewarding when you finally understand how to do it and begin drawing things yourself. Classes are large and getting to all of you is my challenge. I am doing my best to get to everyone. Hang in there with me. The hand drawings you have done will be incorporated into the city-scape to make a more surreal look to the city. The hand drawings are worth 5 points for each skillfully drawn and shaded hand. You are expected to draw 5 different hands for a total of 25 pts. The completed city-scape is worth 100 pts.
Well, the music rotation is finally over and you have made your decisions about which classes you want to be in. Yesterday was the first day in art for all of you. I am delighted to have you in my class! All of the students in the school are participating in the "Take Action against bullying" program and the art classes are no exception. The sixth grade will be looking at character education words and creating an ambassador around the word. We will have ambassadors of responsibility or tolerance or listening. I am eager to see what these ambassadors will look like. All will be displayed in the hallways when complete.
We have started the year out reading the "Take Action against Bullying" booklet. Seventh grade students are creating comic strips illustrating scenes where bullying is not successful. As we approach the new school year, it is important for all students to take responsibility for their words and actions. The seventh grade is doing a great job with their depictions of bullying. These comic strips will be due at the end of class on Wednesday, August 18th.
