Current Happenings

This year has really gone by quickly.  We are half-way through the quarter and I am starting to feel that "end of year crunch."  We have very long projects in the 8th grade.  We started the quarter with our "anchor project," the "Gravity failed" project.  This project remains in your tray and you will work on it as you finish other projects.  We started our Magazine Mozaic project about a week ago.  I am starting to see the beautiful results of this project as students finish and turn these in to me.  I will display these on the main hallway bulletin board for the week of the art show (more info to follow).  As they are finished, I will post the grades to I-Parent.  I am hoping that all students can have these finished by tuesday, 4/29.

Our next project will be a pencil/shading project.  It will be a radial design project with much detail.  I will talk to you about this more as we finish the mozaic.

Mark your calendars for May 13th!  This is the date of Dickerson's annual "Night of the Arts!"  The art show will be held from 6:00-8:00P.M.  All are invited, even if a student does not have an art work in the show.  In a week or so, you will be receiving a personalized invitation for the event.  Any student who had art this year and completed the event-specific project will have a framed work of art in the show.  On the night of the event, Orchestra, Band, Chorus and Facs will be performing and/or selling baked goods.  We all look forward to seeing you there!

Current Happenings

We are half-way through the quarter already!  This year has really flown by!  Well, 7th grade is moving along very well in the art class room.  We have completed 2 projects and are in the process of completing a third.  We would like to thank artist, Pamela Daresta for coming to the Dickerson art class to give us all a lesson in Printmaking.  We all enjoyed learning about this art medium.  We have been working on our own printmaking projects.  These should be finished by the end of this week.  One thing we learned is that this can be a time-consuming endeavor with 25 students in both classes.

We will be starting a new project this week.  We will be making our own Treasure Map.  This is a long project.  We will probably have to interrupt it to begin our Ceramics project.

Current Happenings

Well here we are, in the last quarter of the 2007/2008 school year.  So much has been going on in the art room that I have not had an opportunity until now to gather my thoughts.  We have completed 3 assignments in art so far.  One of them was a reading assignment that the students enjoyed doing.   They are all graded and posted on I-Parent.  We are currently working on a clay project.  Students are making a ceramic fish and they are looking very good.  Some of the fish have 3 eyes, some have teeth, a few have passengers somewhere on them.  Once these are dry, we will glaze them and they will be ready to take home.  Please keep in mind that if you feel you are falling behind in a project, I am here at 8:15 every morning and you can come in early to work on any assignment.  Please just let me know if this is what you intend to do, so  that I will make sure that I am here early enough to retrieve you from study hall.

city-scape

With our first project of a cut paper city scape finished, and our second project waiting to dry (Clay fish) we are moving fast into the quarter!  Today we did our reading assignment and enjoyed reading about various artists and their styles.  A summary was due after the reading and as I look over these, they look very good.  Keep up the good work!

Self-portrait

Well, we have completed our self-portraits and they look great!  You have worked hard on these and the end result really reflects that.  Please remember that you will not be getting these back until May of this year.  I will be hanging these in my art show at the end of the school year.  Keep May 13th open so that you can attend the show!

We have started our ceramics project and I think everyone is excited to get going!  We will be making gourds with birds in them.  I am looking forward to seeing how all of them come out.

Keep in mind that we will be doing a reading assignment after we finish our ceramics project.  We will discuss this further as time approaches.

Aboriginal dot painting

As we continue to work on our dot paintings, please keep in mind that this is a long-term project.  It will be due on Wednesday, February 6th.  Please remember to custom-mix your paint.  The colors will not be rich and deep unless you custom-mix the paint.  Also remember to paint neatly.  You will be graded on craftsmanship as well as following directions.  The overall appearance of the work does matter.  Do your very best, it always pays off in the end!

I will be grading your reading assigments this weekend.  It looks like most of you did well from what I have seen so far.

Happy Holidays! Enjoy the season!

As you work on your "Shapes" project, read the directions carefully.  Some of you are asking me questions that can be answered by reading the directions on the back of your project sheet.  Remember, this is a lesson in listening and following directions.  We will do one more project before we break for the Winter Holidays.
