Thesis What?!?!? We discussed thesis statements and looked at the qualities of strong and weak thesis statements.
The students read articles relating to a debatable topic from our literature textbooks. We discussed “Are all games worth playing?” More specifically, we looked at dodgeball as a factor in games being worth playing or not.
As we read both informative pieces, we created a chart to identify the persuasive techniques and tone each author used.
We looked at writing prompts today and discussed how to interpret a prompt (Speaker, Audience, Purpose, and Format). In addition, we went over the criteria for Pre-Writing.
The students began an outline for a dodgeball persuasive essay. This outline is due Tuesday, December 6th! It will be counted as a quiz grade!

Announcements: We will have a language arts Checkpoint test on Tuesday, December 6th. The students will be taking two assessments to review skills learned and assess skills needed.
Mock Writing Test – We will have the morning of Wednesday, December 7th for a Mock Writing Test. Make sure you have pencils and blue or black pens!
