QUACK! SAT Volume 6! The notecards are due Friday, March 11^th, and the quiz is Monday, March 14^th

 HIPPIE DAY is coming!  Tuesday, March 8^th!  We are in need of: volunteers to help set-up and/or take-down, lava lamps, bean bags, and “hippie” décor.  If you have anything that you will be willing to donate (of course it will be returned to you afterwards), we will greatly appreciate it!!

Today, we went to the media center to work on an informational/expository organization scavenger hunt.  The students located examples of cause/effect, problem/solution, compare/contrast, and chronological order from passages in books and/or articles they found in the library.

 Homework:  You have a quiz over 4 organizational strategies.  Make sure you study your graphic organizer that we filled out in class!

 Reminder: You need two AR quizzes taken by the end of the quarter – March 17^th!

Fabulous Friday!

We spent the period silent reading! The students had the opportunity to take AR tests and check out books in the Media Center.

 Reminder: We have through half of the quarter which means that you should have finished your first AR book and taken the quiz.

We filled in a graphic organizer for all 4 organizational strategies.  This will be a quiz on Wednesday, March 2nd (the week we get back from break). 

 We practiced cause & effect writing today.  We completed pages 407-409 in our workbook.  (Answer the questions 1 & 2 on Page 407 and answer questions 1-3 on Page 409).  This was turned in for a classwork grade.  After, the students had a handout to complete for cause & effect practice.  This must be turned into your period’s bin by tomorrow.

We continued discussing the organizational structure of expository and informational writing.  We completed the pages from our Reader’s Journey Workbook on page 246-251.  In the margins, write any signal words that are used.  Answer questions 1-5 on page 251 in complete sentences.

We looked at cause & effect writing today.  Also, we discussed the terms affect, effect, and enable.  We played “Cliffhanger” using cause & effect signal words.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

We discussed paragraph chunking for our upcoming MLK literary analysis essay questions.

 We continued with our two assignments from the MLK “I Have a Dream Speech.”  The students are working with the literary devices he uses to create a visual representation and complete a literary analysis.

 Each student has been assigned a line from the speech to represent in a visual format.  Please see the rubric for specific assignment requirements.  This assignment can be turned in at anytime, but the final day to turn it in is Wednesday, March 2^nd.

 The literary analysis assignment is being worked on in class as well as at home.  We will spend next week in the computer lab.  The assignment must be typed and will be due to me by the end of the class period next Friday, February 18^th.

Beatle Grammar!  We worked on parts of speech, parts of a sentence, and sentence structures today with “All My Loving.”
