In class today, we did a lab on the water table.  The lab was called "Water Table in a Jar," and the students were able to see how a water table may look.

Homework: Finish water table lab labeling.  Create a "Shaping-Up Review" using the topic "Water Underground." The triangle has 3 facts you learned about the topic, the circle has 5 questions you are still wondering, and the square is a 3 sentence reflection about what you learned.

Today, we had our test on commas.  The students turned in their commas packet, and we proofread a paragraph to add commas.

After the test, the students created a character web about Abraham Lincoln using the story "A Backwards Boy."

Today in science, we learned about the water underground.  We discussed the water table, wells, and how water is pumped into our homes.

Today we went to the computer lab to create a mind map of our journey as a water molecule through the water cycle.  The students used the program Inspiration to create their maps.

Lincoln_29868_lg Today, we read a story about the childhood of Abraham Lincoln titled "A Backwoods Boy."  The story is from our literature textbook on pages 314-324. 

Also, we added the three new vocabulary words from the story to a vocabulary log that was given to each student.  We will continue filling in vocabulary words, and eventually we will have a test on them.

Homework:  Finish reading story pages 314-324 and fill in the three vocabulary words into our vocabulary log.

Reminder:  The commas review/study guide is due tomorrow for the review before our test on Thursday.

Happy Monday!

We went outside today to complete a water molecule lab called "The Incredible Journey: A water molecule."  The students took the role of a water molecule and went through stations to experience the journey through the water cycle.  Tomorrow, we will be taking the information we recorded and creating maps on Inspiration.

We reviewed commas in addresses and in dates.  Also, the students worked on their study packet for our commas test this Thursday, January 31st.  The review packet will be due Wednesday for us to check, but will be turned in on Thursday.

A7fig1 Today in science, the students learned about watershed and the properties associated with rivers.  Each class got their own "continent" that had landforms, rivers, and other areas named after each student in the class.  They were required to color code the diagram according to a step-by-step guide provided to them.  They are to color mountains, rivers, lakes, and the watershed areas.  Also, they are to create a key/legend displaying what each color represents and a compass.

Today in language arts, the students received their study packet on commas.  Our test will be next Thursday, January 31st.  The packet is due on Wednesday, January 30th so we can review together.  I will be having study sessions next week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning.

We also discussed commas used in letters, addresses, and within numbers.
