Power Point notes - slides 21-28 (download Power Point from November 26th's blog)

Also, the students used Play Dough to construct three of the volcanic landforms: shield cone, cinder cone, and composite cone volcanoes.

Homework:  Volcanic Landforms Journal.  For question #2 - please create a Venn Diagram to show the similarities and differences between shield, cinder, and composite volcanoes.

Happy Friday!

Today in language arts, we created a class Venn Diagram of friendly and business letters.  The students added additional similarities and differences to their own diagram.

We reviewed for our test on nouns.  The test will cover the following nouns types: common, proper, compound, singular, plural, possessive (singular possessive and plural possessive), concrete, and abstract.

There will be a study/review session Monday, December 3rd in the morning.

Homework:  Study for your nouns test.  The test is on Monday!

Homework:  Finish the friendly letter packet and complete the Venn diagram.

Reminder:  Our test on nouns is Monday, December 3rd.  We will be reviewing in class tomorrow, but I will have study/review sessions tomorrow, Friday, November 30th and Monday, December 3rd.

Volcano_hawaii_kilauea_puu_oo We went to the computer lab today to complete a web-quest on volcanoes.  The students visited the site http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/pompeii/interactive/interactive.html to complete a virtual volcano and answer questions from a guide/handout.

The last day I will be collecting Play Dough is Friday, November 30th.  I am starting to get many donations!  Thank you very much for all of your help!  The students seem extremely excited to get hands on with volcanoes!!

We worked on our possessive nouns packet today in class.  We also began abstract and concrete nouns.

Our test on Monday, December 3rd on nouns will cover: common, proper, compound, singular, plural (make sure you review the rules to follow when changing from singular to plural), possessive, abstract, and concrete.

In class today, we completed our Guided Workbook pages 63-65 (#'s 1-15).

Also, we took notes and learned about the parts of a volcano and the characteristics of magma.

Notes on Slides numbered 12-14.  Power Point link to download on November 26th's blog entry.

Homework:  Label the parts of the volcano and describe each feature in your own words.  Your book and notes will be a great reference.  Also, workbook pages 63-65 (if not finished in class).

I am planning our volcano lab using Play Dough next week.  We will need to have our donated Play Dough in by this Friday, November 30th.  If we do not receive enough for our classroom, we will find alternate activities.  I think the students will really enjoy the activity with Play Dough because we are going to create and experience volcanic eruptions.

In language arts today, the students worked on a packet of possessive nouns and plural nouns.  They had to distinguish between the two.  Also, they had to use the rules to add apostrophe's to plural and singular possessive nouns.  The packet will be finished and due during class tomorrow.

We are having a test on Monday, November 3rd on nouns.  I will have study sessions Friday, November 30th and Monday, November 3rd.

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable break!

Today in science we started our unit on volcanoes.  The students received their volcanoes unit packet that will be due on our next test date.  I will give an exact date towards the end of the week.

We completed a KWL chart in class to discuss the things we "know" about volcanoes and the things we "want" to know/learn.

We took notes on volcanoes (slides 1-10)

Power Point notes: Download volcanoes_chapter_6_power_point_notes.ppt

Homework:  Complete the world map to show the location of the earth's active volcanoes.  Use page 179 in your textbook as a guide.  Make sure you have a key, show the plate boundaries, and show the active volcanoes.  Neatness counts!
